If I purchase a Lenovo Ideapad Y50 UHD in the European Union, will upgrading the HD to an SSD void the warranty? In my country, the SSD version is unavailable, and while I know that in the US an SSD upgrade does not void the warranty, I'm not sure about the EU.

If I'm returning the laptop for warranty repairs, I'll of course take out the SSD and replace it with the original drive because of the risk of losing the SSD otherwise. If warranty is voided with the SSD replacement, will Lenovo be able to know that I've changed hard drives if I put the original back in?

    Nope. Won't void your warranty.

Do you have a source that says so? That would help enormously.
