    I was looking at a refurbished Thinkpad T61 on Ebay indicating a Lenovo Warranty that will expire around Sept-2011. Would a refurbished item void the Lenovo Warranty? Would you trust that the warranty is still effective despite refurbishment?

    Refurbs carry the same warranty as new laptops. Just make sure when the warranty is going to expire.

    Even though the seller refurbished the item the warranty would still be effective?
    seller = non-Lenovo shop.

    Ask him for the serial number and check it on Lenovo's warranty checker. They will fix the laptop as long as it has some time remaining on the warranty.

    Do you have a link? I guess it would depend on what they did and how good they were. For certain things like the keyboard or optical drive it won't matter as Lenovo would just send you a replacement, but if the screen broke and they replaced it with a glossy, it'd probably be difficult to miss. If they also did a poor job on any replacements, it would be harder to miss.

    If the machine was purchased through the Lenovo Outlet, the above is *not* true. Refurbished, redistributed, and new machines from the Outlet all carry a one year maintenance agreement and are not eligible for warranty upgrades. While they are eligible for extensions to the maintenance offering, these extensions are more costly than warranty upgrades for the same period would be, and the selections are more limited.

    May be you misunderstood me. I said the quality of the warranty is same with no mention of warranty extension. My point was they fix your laptop as long as warranty is still intact and assuming no 3rd party job done to it.
