I got my care package a couple days ago; messenger bag, wireless mouse, and ethernet dongle like the others. Lenovo did not send me any notice that it was coming nor did I order through any special channels. I did order the day the X1 Carbon was available on their website though.

So I am not sure how this keeps getting worse, and I don't know how this hasn't been mentioned in this thread before. THIS LAPTOP IS NOT VERIZON COMPATIBLE. Even though it was advertised as Verizon friendly, and Lenovo chat said it would work, when they built this they didn't use the gobi 3G card, which was the only one that could do Verizon. The whole reason I bought his laptop was so I wouldnt have to carry a mifi around. Didn't anybody else care about this omission?

For those who aren't happy with the X1C screen have you considered the X230 with the IPS screen? Or what notebook are you considering? The X230 is smaller at 12.5" but if the screen is night and day different I'd try one, has anyone compared the two in person, how did you find the size and weight? Thanks.

Not to mention all the accessories I just bought for a laptop that is now useless to me and Ive only had in my possession for 48hrs since sept 17. /rant. -

My X1C just arrived Friday, and I have noticed that ever since this morning (ask those eons ago) it's been randomly losing internet connection and/or connecting, getting 4-5 bars, but having that stupid little yellow triangle and not connecting to the internet. With my mediocre computer-navigational skills, I found somewhere that it was sending "packets" but not receiving them. I don't know what this means but I think it's important.

Seemed to work for me, although more experienced people on the forum might have a better explanation -

If you are using Windows 7 or Windows 8, Lenovo Access Connections is not needed.

I just received an X1 Carbon today. The front panel is loose at the right hand side (where my right wrist rests). You can see a noticeable gap between the top and bottom where the screw doesn't quite engage fully. Anyone else seen this? It looks like the front-right screw is loose but it can't be tightened any further. Should I send it back ?
> @ all owners: Is the top side with the Keyboard at the right front corner a little bit loose compared to the left front corner?
Yes. I see the same problem out of the box. How common is this? -
I have been reading this thread for a while before and after ordering my X1 Carbon and - having received mine today - here is my feedback regarding some of the reported issues and I can report on an annoying issues that I encountered with my machine.
With one exception (see below), the build quality of my notebook is excellent. Everything is where it should be, no bezel gaps, no loose bits or oddly looking touch pads. The touch pad feels fine and not "rubbery". I have no issues with the screen (I do wear glasses though so not the best eyes). If you would like to know any details of the machine please let me know and I will see what I can do.
The exception that I mentioned relates to what probably is the cheapest part of the notebook: the rubber SIM card cover. I ordered the notebook from Europe so it came with a Lenovo Mobile Access SIM card. When I unpacked the notebook from the (fancy type) box, one side of the rubber cover of the SIM card slot was not flush with the case but stood up from the rest of the case about 3-5 mm and could not be pushed in place because the rubber end of one side of the cover seemed to hit some kind of obstacle inside the notebook and would be pushed back out from being flush with the case when no longer applying manual pressure to it. Since part of the slot cover stood out from the rest of the case, the rubber cover was dragged open downwards toward the bottom of the case with an audible click sound every time I opened the display lid, because it stood out too far for the lid to pass over it. All of this happened regardless of whether or not the SIM card was in the slot.
I took me about 30 minutes fiddling to get the rubber cover past whatever obstacle it was hitting inside the notebook through trial-and-error opening and closing of the cover so that it would sit flush with the rest of the case. Five more minutes and I would have either opened the case to see what is in the way or opened a support ticket with my fancy on-site warranty. -

That's not the case on my machine. The screws are already tight. It looks like poor build quality. Will have to send this back.

I just received my USB Ethernet adapter a month later, and they threw in these as well.

Pretty impressed with that, I didn't contact them about it at all. -
Two more questions now.
Whenever I shut down my computer, it tells me it's configuring changes, then I power it back up, it begins to finish the changes, then it says it failed and reverts, and then restarts... again. This is a) aggravating because it's not updating and b) aggravating because it doubles the time taken in a restart.
Also, my Microsoft Office icons have been replaced by the default icon for a Windows XP program (even though it's Office 2010), but the things themselves work perfectly. It's just agitating. It doesn't fit in with the rest of the fancy icons. Makes me grr. -
My first impressions are very positive. No gaps or other build problems (feels very solid) and the screen is better than I expected. (I can see a screen-door effect if I look closely at it, but I doubt I'd have noticed without other comments, and vertical viewing angles are not that great but absolutely fine for a single user. Neither factor personally bothers me at all) Keyboard is good, but I definitely notice that the keys are shallower than on a thicker Thinkpad. -

I've had the rubbery touchpad as well.

Is there a cheaper alternative to buying a spare $60 power adapter? I have a few of the old Lenovo power adapters... is there a "old circle to new rectangle" adapter/tip (1st or 3rd party) available?
-
Has everyone been getting the huge AC brick or are some of you who got your X1 Carbon in the last little while getting it with a small/normal sized AC brick?

It would also be nice so you could run the X1 Carbon off a smaller 65W adapter (which I assume would work even if it didn't support rapid charge). As it is seems like there's no alternative to the 90W adapter (the slim AC/DC adapter is even heavier and only useful for people who want an all-in-one charging device, not people who simply want a lighter AC adapter). -

There are some new models that have shown up on this site:

Couple of X1 Carbon q's for other owners out there (running Win7 x64 with latest updates/drivers):
1) Anyone else noticed that the WWAN Adapter (Ericsson H5321gw) has a tendency to "malfunction" after waking up from sleep? It's OK after a reboot but rather annoying...
2) Is there a way to replace the PrtSc key with the missing Windows context menu key?
Many thanks,

Well now I get to find out how good is Lenovo's warranty
I've had this for 3 weeks, and the trackpoint now goes crazy. It just jumps everywhere around the page. If I press REALLY hard, it'll slowly go where I want it to, but as soon as I let go it goes crazy again.
I got the next business day warranty, so I'll keep you posted on how well they respond -
Another annoyance is that Skype keeps switching to "do not disturb" all by itself. According to this post this is a bug with the Bluetooth helper (which allows using Skype with a wireless headset). Severing the connection is a workaround though I quite like being able to use my Bluetooth headset with Skype...
Looks like this issue is a year old and is reported as particularly affecting Lenovo laptops... -

I have designed my own that lets me access Norwegian characters æøå using the right alt key and where the characters would have been if I used a physical Norwegian keyboard. This gets me around the maddening confusion stemming from all the punctuation characters switching when changing languages (say I have EN-AU and NO, and switch using alt+shift).
FWIW, with my i5/8/256 DOAed I was really considering the Apple R13. However I ended up deciding on staying with the X1C, paying a reasonably small amount to update to the i7/8/256 and adding accidental protection warranty. I am quite missing the superb case and keyboard of the X1C already. -
Ordered a i5/8gb/256gb here in the US. Order status says 'in production' and ship date is today. I paid $ 1,380.20 USD and $ 1,467.84 USD after tax. (with corporate discount) What did some of you pay for this model? Also I'm a bit interested in the speed of the "i5-3427U". I'm going to be using the laptop for windows 8 development....hoping the processor is solid enoug.. anyone running vs2012?

Joshua, thanks for sharing your opinions, and to others for theirs too. I have been mostly pleased with my X1C; as a ~20 year TP user I think this is one of the best.
I have a question though, how did you manage to get cold boot < 60 secs? I have tried everything and cannot get < 90 secs -- my antivirus and wifi getting a dhcp address take up the last 30 sec or so. Any advice would be appreciated.
Biggest (maybe only) complaint: power supply and its connector tip -- cannot use the dozen or so 65w and 90w older TP power supplies I have! The current 90w adapter just ruins the travel portability. Am planning to do some cutting/splicing of cables if someone doesnt a connector converter.

So I got my laptop back after repairs. I was wondering if anyone else seems to think the trackpad is jittery? I know most of you will say use the pointer, but I am a trackpad guy, coming from a Dell. The Lenovo got rave reviews for the trackpad, so I am surprised to find i find it jittery. I included a video here, so it doesnt seem like senseless complaining. Obviously the video is pretty boring, but I am noticing two things:
1.) When the pointer come to stop overtop of a hyperlink, or tab, or something, it shifts backs and forth a microinch (see end of video :27/28 mark).
2.) It also seems to jump around a lot (see beginning). Is this sensitivity? Is there a driver I can update with? Anyone else?
Should I turn off gestures? how do I do that? Thanks!

For the power supply, you can buy an additional ultra slim 90w power supply which includes multiple adapters (even for charging from auto 12v-outlet).
