Is this true? Just read they subcontracted the manufacturing to Acer. If true, that explains the QC issues.
But I hope it's not true, Lenovo subcontracting their 20th anniversary machine to a known low quality pc maker ... sad, very sad.

it is made by Wistron, which has the manufacturing ID of KS, which stands for KunShan where Wistron plant is located in. This plant also churns out other models of ThinkPad.
Wistron has been spun off Acer ages ago, Acer no longer has any manufacturing capacities what so ever. Don't let the Acer association fool you into thinking that Wistron production quality is bad, they were the original manufacturer of most of the top of the line ThinkPad ultraportable laptops (i.e. X series). -
my X220 was made by Wistron and the build quality is quite good.
