Hi
Did some damage to my screen (don't ask how!) on my X220 and just getting a mixed up colour screen - its an IPS screen with 3x3 wifi antenna. Rather than replace the whole lalptop, thinking of just putting in a new screen. Can the screen of the the same type be replaced easily? any instructions?
Would i need to buy this for for instance?

You left something on the keyboard and closed the lid?
It is easy to replace.
Open laptop to 180 degrees flat if possible.
There is two screws on the front, bottom corners. Remove the covers with a sharp knife tip (there is adhesive underneath, try to preserve it). I usually stick them next to the screw hole. Then remove those two screws. Remove bezel by grabbing it from the inside and carefully twist it up/outwards, it should release from the clips quite easily and come off.
Now you see the panel and the screws that keep it in place. Compare them to the panel you have bought, make sure the screw points are the same in both displays. If they are, unscrew the display and carefully lift it up, place it face down on the keyboard (it's broken, so who cares...) use the knife to peel the tape that secures the LCD cable. No need to remove it totally, just enough to loosen the cable from the broken display.
Put the new display on top of the old one, attach the LCD Cable, see if the tape still holds. Usually I apply one slice of packing tape over it to make sure it won't move.
Move new display into its position, check that all the wwan and wlan cables are okay and screw it in.
Remove the protective cover from the new panel and put the bezel on (otherwise the cover/plastic sheet gets stuck beneath the bezel). Put the screws in and their covers. Done.

Luckily my X220 landed on the rug but the screen didn't survive - everything else was intact (the X220 really is built like a tank)
Anyway I bought a replacement screen from ebay (link in first post) and followed the steps in this excellent video
it was quite easy though putting the bezel back on is quite tricky. Lesson learnt: throw something else next time wife annoys the hell out of me -
Or get a toughbook. Then you'll need to replace floor tiles under the rug though
