I have a 3 week old Lenovo X61. I leave my computer on hibernate whenever I turn it off. For some reason, and it seems to happen every Tuesday of the week, the battery will drain itself.

I unplugged it for about 6 hours during today and when I turned it back on the battery went from 100% to 91%. If I leave it on hibernate for the entire night, it would wake up the next morning with 82% left.

The strange thing is it seems to only happen on Tuesdays. I can have it on hibernate and unplugged and it seems to lose less than 1% on other days (still need to confirm this fully).

I did a factory reinstall and left only the battery management software along with just basic Windows Vista but the problem still seems to be occurring.

What software could be interfering with hibernation I wonder??

I'm not sure if this would effect a hibernating machine, but Windows updates occur once a month on Tuesday. Anti-virus updates and scans also come to mind.

Thanks. Since my Thinkpad is pretty much a closed system, I don't have any antivirus software on it at the moment. I updated to the latest software versions via Lenovo's System update program and then uninstalled it and also uninstalled the Rescue and Recovery software. I turned off automatic Windows updates and even turned off the synchronize time feature. Whatever was waking up the machine seemed to have been turned off.

After a few more weeks of testing, my battery has drained about 1% on its on in the last two weeks. I only use my X61 sparingly on the go and for the past weeks I have noticed a constant 99-100% battery life when waking up from hibernation after a couple days of non-use.

I specifically have only been using it only connected to the wall outlet for the past couple of weeks and checking the battery meter every time I boot up, the battery has not needed to receive any recharge at all since it is over 96%. It is disconnected from the wall everytime after hibernation to make sure it is not recharging when off. I just installed Vista SP1 and will see if anything has changed.
