After seeing close up pics of the hinge design, I can't say I'm a huge fan of it compared to the metal ones on my t42p. Otherwise it looks great and I can't wait to get my hands on my p7450 cpu model.

not a bad review... but they reviewed the low-end model so not all of that will be accurate for the higher-end models... especially the p7450/105M option

I wouldn't worry about the heat. I have the Y550 and it doesn't get too hot unless I'm playing games or using processor intense programs for an extended period of time. For watching movies and internet browsing the heat is just fine.

Don't get taken, like I was.

I ordered the Lenovo Y450 (model 418938U). A nice-looking laptop, and seems to work OK for the most part, except that the wrist-rest area gets very hot during usage. I'm not talking about warm, I'm talking hot. It was so uncomfortable I decided to call tech support and report the problem. The tech support guy said "they are all like that". I've never used a laptop that got so hot.

I will also add that when I was going through the personalization features, the Windows Vista explorer would stop responding, and I had to shut it down and restart. This isn't a good sign either, especially since this was supposedly a very powerful machine with the Core 2 Duo processor.

I called the sales department, and they said I would have to pay to ship the unit back + pay a 15% restocking fee (I have to pay because they don't consider the unit to be faulty). All that for the priviledge of trying out their machine for less than 24 hours. So I'm sending it back, and my only hope is to dispute the restocking fee with my credit card.

The rest of you can take your chances, but honestly I will never do business with this company again. Their poorly designed (or faulty) product ended up costing me $100 to try out for a single day. You've been warned.

I got the 2.53 GHz Core 2 Duo version with the NVIDIA GT130M vid card (418966U) and 4GB RAM for $721 direct from lenovo.

When playing Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare and Battlefield2 if will shutdown and restart sporadically. I think it's overheating? Vista log shows "Video Hardware Error". I have the most current NVIDIA drivers and it runs fine for an hour sometimes....Sometimes only 15 minutes.

The machine runs awesome until the shutdown and I am very pleased with performance and build quality otherwise.

It shuts down even when back of unit is proped up. Thought raising off table would increase flow, but isn't enough. Also happens when I'm not charging the battery. I heard charging creates more heat.

Not sure if i need to get a laptopl cooler or a replacement through Lenovo. I will wait until my copy of Windows 7 arrives to be sure it isnt a software or setting issue.

I can verify that Windows 7 (64 bit) does not solve the problem. I have had my Y450 with the 1gb nvidia graphics card for about 2 months now and ran it with no problem.....all of the sudden beginning last week while playing Left 4 Dead the computer would be putting out serious heat...then just shut down (and not restart).

This is what i can tell you....... When i dock it (no cooling but the laptop is perched up 6inches in the air) and use a VGA cable to run to a 23 in monitor and play the same game on the same settings.............it never shuts down.

Lay it flat and play however and it shuts down anywhere from 15 to 1hr into play.

I always have the battery in and charger running when this happens.

I have (as of yesterday) update ALL drivers including the video card for win7....no help...

Send back to Lenovo ?? I'm thinking it's my only option.

(Main difference for me = laying flat versus docked which allows airflow, never shut down while air is flowing well, always shuts down laying flat on any surface).
