Some really good deals on Y460/560'S

I like the Y460 with the 14" and 5650, but for the same price I can get the 15" with a 5730.

$749 free shipping seems like an amazing price for this hardware. Any reviews?

Could you let us know what you are looking for/doing with the machine that you want?

The 5650 can be overclocked to be just as powerful as the 5730.

The bottom of the y460 gets hot, while the y560 does a much better job.

The y560 has had a lot of screen problems/issues.

The y460 is a pound lighter than the y560.

If you get the y560 with i7(quad core) you will get less than 3 hours of battery life, compared to the nearly 5 with the dual core models with switchable graphics.

Class note taking, surfing the web, gaming (DA:O and sc2 I guess), movie watching.
I would get the y560 with the i5 btw, thats the one that costs $749.

What screen problem/issues does the y560 have? The y460 doesn't have them?
I'll go with the y460 if thats the case.

50+ pages of complaints: Re: Widespread Y560 Display Problem? - Lenovo Community

Fuzzy screen, big mouse cursor problem, etc. Some people aren't that bothered by it though. I haven't heard too many people complain about the screen on the y460 other than the 1366x768 resolution.

I should have added before that a simple laptop cooling pad solves the y460's hot bottom almost completely.

Well then I won't get the 560... I probably should see if the Y460 has any kind of issues like that. A hot bottom part of the laptop doesn't seem like a big deal... It just means don't put it on your lap while gaming right?

I read an article that said having a hot laptop on your lap can cause skin discoloration. :X The CPU, GPU, and the hard drive temperatures stay within stay well within the safe zone, but I do worry about the RAM, wireless card, etc. getting too hot. I gamed on mine for a while before getting a cooler and never had any problems.

I didn't see that you had the laptop. I guess you would recommend it then :)
Yea, I don't normally have a laptop on my lap anyways.

Did you try applying your own thermal compound to keep temps down? And did adding a SSD help with temps any?

Someone in the big y460 and y560 thread put some on his y460, but his temps. were only about 2-3C lower than mine. The hard drive ran hotter than the SSD, but it didn't seem to affect the other components.

I really like the Y460. After tax, it comes out to 800 dollars with the coupon thats on right now. There are similar laptops that cost less like the acer 3820tg which is what I'm more then likely going to get. The acer is 13.3 inch with the same 5650 ati card in it. Might wana check it out in acer forum.

Just a vouch for the Y560, although it's only a couple weeks old, I have not had the same screen problems that were mentioned there. We haven't determined yet, but I think that it may have something to do with the brand of LCD panel...mine came with an LG.

    FWIW

Didn't see any of these problems in my friend's Y560, configured with the i7 quad core and Radeon 5730. But, it does run warm and gets pretty poor battery life. The screen resolution is no higher than the Y460, too. Personally, I would recommend the Y460 on mainly the previous point, but it all depends on your usage and what exactly you want/expect from your laptop.
