Lenovo Y460p Users - anyone recorded from a headset mic before?

I can't seem to record it...

    1) There are 2 jacks: on the manual it said one is called "Headphone jack" and the other "Microphone Jack".

    2) Plugging it the right way ( Red jack to "mic jack", green jack to "headphone jack") yields no recording: audio plays but when recording using sound recorder, nothing is recorded.

    3) Plugging in the wrong way ( Red Jack to "headphone jack"), i actually can record SOUND. but no audio can be played out from the laptop.

I've updated drivers from the lenovo site, still nothing.

Someone with Lenovo Y-series can help test this with a headset with mic? See if you can record your voice using your headset mic?

    Many thanks!

Works just fine on my y460 with Astro A40's.

It sounds like one of the settings is off. Open the Realtek HD Audio Manager and make sure nothing is muted and the device is recognized. By default, the playback from the microphone was muted on my laptop.....

Are u using a headset with its own microphone?

If yes, that would be same as me...

I wonder why is playback from mic muted... but there's a separate volume control for microphone too. weird.

have you try to activate external microphone and/or set it as default?

right click the volume icon > recording devices > show disabled & disconnected devices > set the external one as default.
