Just got quoted it for $854.10 USD plus tax from my lenovo sales rep. Anyone get any lower?
Will probably be ordering it today and shipping it to my US mailing address across the border. I live in Vancouver![]()
So yea I'm assuming its going to be pretty much the same as the y460p but just with better graphics and some other stuff.
Heres the product page.

I got the i5 14" model with no blue ray.
Please delete/lock this if this thread is considered irrelevant as the y470 is similar to the y460p.
EDIT: 06/04/2011
My order failed on me and got cancelled. I called and it turns out that it was because they don't ship to freight forwarding services. I decided to try something and pay via amazon, because I thought maybe having the payments and stuff routed through amazon they would slip up and ship it. Turns out they did. My y470 was originally 949 but i got a 854 quote from the rep, but since that cancelled on me I ordered it again and the base price dropped to 850 and I found a 10% off coupon and paid 760 ish. Most people in this thread seem to have gotten better deals, but hey, I just want it shipped. I don't do anything that requires an i7, and i3's are too low-end for me...and i dislike high prices and taxes for us Canadians (Ugh that ing HST.) so for me it was a good dealKeep posting your deals everyone! I'll write up a thorough review if I feel like it when I get my laptop, which should be in a week or so now that it's shipped.
Lets discuss modifications now!!! Any way to get a backlit keyboard on this thang? Or change the back cover? I don't know how dark it is, but if its black I can live with it...if its like brown...I might want a skin or something.....Also, I hate that orange stripe that goes around, would it be a viable option to color it black with a permaneant marker? :3 or does anyone here who's more tech savvy have any better ideas? ALSO, how would we go about installing an SSD where the optical drive is? I personally have no use for a disk drive. I think I'd need a bracket of some sort for the hole where the disk drive used to be....but where can I get one, and are all brackets universal? I'll update the OP with new information from the thread when I have time, to help people out~![]()

Seems like a good deal to me. I would include the y570 as well due to the lack of non-Thinkpad posts on here. (There is literally one post a week about a non-Thinkpad.)
-
do you know what the difference between the 085524U and the 085523U is? The only noticable difference i see is a BluRay Drive and a larger 750GB 5400rpm hdd (vs 500gb @ 7200)..
If thats the case.. how can they possibly charge 300$ MORE for just a bluray drive and 250GB more at a lower RPM. What a rip off... -
I do not have a US mailing address so I'm still waiting for Lenovo to release the Y570 in Canada.
-
Hey look, I found the Y470 owner's thread. I made one since I couldn't seem to get the forum search to return anything. But now that I found this (Google FTW) I'll go delete mine and move over here.

I ordered my Y570 on Monday when they were doing the 48hr sale. Anyone else order or receive one of these yet? I'm interested in impressions and pictures.

you should have gotten the i5... apparently your love isnt worth $110?
-
Hi all,
I just got quoted $974.25 Canadian from Lenovo Canada for the i7 8GB 500GB version non Blu-ray Y570. I initially wanted the i5 version but it's not available in Canada so I went ahead with the i7 version. So basically, I'm paying $165 more from the US $809.25 (i5 promotion) for a i7 and 4GB more ram DDR3-1600 as opose to DDR3-1333 on the i5. I think I'm happy. -
Looking at the Y470 (14"), I haven't seen any reviews yet for this laptop, but the specs look good.
Has anyone gotten it yet, how do the owners like it so far?
Is there any information so far about the heat, noise and battery life?
Finally, is the HDD accessible? I'd want to put in an SSD.
Thanks! -
I'm still waiting for mine (Ordered on May 4)
Found a review, can't figure out the language but theres some nice pictures:
[Review] Lenovo Y470 by Razer - Club Lenovo - ?????????????,?????????????????????,????????????????? - NotebookSpec Webboard Notebook - Powered by Di
The thing that got my attention is the DOS Operating system option, I wish I had this option on shop.lenovo.com -
where is this configuration with rapid drive (ssd)?
-
The lenovo site in the US lists
"8 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz"
Do you suppose they mean PC3-10666 (which would be 1333 MHz), or 1066MHz (which is PC3-8500)? -
My mistake it's DDR3-1333.
-
Hmm, doesn't look like Canadians get the GT555 on these. Also, these have USB 3.0 ports right?
-
No they're all GT 555M for the Y570 and GT 550M for the Y470.
-
-
is backlit keyboard too much to dream about? lol
-
Hi.
Can someone with one of the new Lenovo Y470 laptops please try:
-Boot with wifi in system, use AIDA64 or EVEREST to check the slot of the wifi card
-Then remove the wifi card, reboot and see if that wifi slot is still active or not.
I'm hoping I can do a DIY Vidock with a Y470. -
I am interested in purchasing one...anybody have a review? Pros/Cons? Battery life? Weight/thickness/portability? Other laptops you were looking into?
Thank you so much,
[::AP::] -
Just ordered my y470 last Thursday and it shipped yesterday morning, should hopefully be receiving it next Monday or Tuesday.
Will update/repost with opinions and will try to answer anyones questions regarding the laptop once I get it and mess with it for awhile. -
I saw a review where you could select the cooling profile of the laptop. Sounds really neat but the review was in another language and I couldn't use a translator. Any info on that would be great as well. -
I cancelled my Y570 i7 and going to be placing an order for the i3 version. I really want the i5 version but it's not available in Canada, the i7 version comes with 8GB which I think is overkill for me plus I have no use for quad-core I just want the features (JBL Speakers, Slidenav, GPU Switch Button, Keyboard/Touchpad, Fan Control, USB 3.0, 2.0MP Webcam...etc) on the Y570 and the GT 555M.
-
Is there going to be a version on the canadian site with the 64gb SSD. Under 10 sec boot time is one of the reasons i wanted the y570.
-
Unfortunately no i5 and SSD versions of the Y570 available for Canadian customers ATM. Still grateful that Lenovo released the Y570 early in Canada though not to mention the Z570 and G770 is also available for Canadian customers.
-
what about hinge? are they better then previously version? are they ok?
-
Not sure if anyone can comment on the hinge ATM cause most users are still waiting on delivery from Lenovo which is notoriously known for slow delivery time. But from the pics taken by the user Razer from the link in page 1 of this thread, the hinge and overall built quality of the laptop does look to be better then the Y560/Y460 series.
-
Weight/Form factor/ thickness is my only other concern. When someone gets the chance, please give your thoughts on the portability of this laptop. (Specifically y470, although I know everyone is getting y570's)
Thanks,
[::AP::] -
The Y470 is specified as 4.85 lbs on the Lenovo website and if you check of Razer's review on the Y470 from the link in the first page you'll see that the Y470 is pretty thin about 2 DVD cases thick.
If you're looking for portability then the Y470 is the one to get, you'll just be sacrificing the GT 555M for a GT 550M (same card just GDDR3 instead, also on Razer's review) and paying a bit extra $$. -
I ordered a Y570 on May 6 and it was delivered to Niche ND on May 19th.... I live in Canada and will be picking it up tomorrow..... I ordered through the US because I could not get the SSD Rapid Drive in Canada.... To order through the US from Canada you need to have a US mailing address and a credit card with a secondary US address that matches the ship to address (call your credit card company to set up).
Once I get the machine... I will provide my feedback...
PS.. I paid $1,061 USD through an affinity program....

i was just looking at the y570's tonight thinking of purchasing one (i was leaning towards the quad core model with the 500gb 7200rpm HDD) when i noticed that the model with rapid drive was the same price.
Initially I ignored the rapid drive model because it was $100 more and i saw the SSD as extraneous; however, now I am considering it. I will be using this laptop for college, so do any of you guys know whether or not the presence of an SSD will increase/decrease battery life, substantially increase the weight, or reduce the storage reliability? i've heard SSD's have a tendency to fail. -
Are you going to be doing any heavy video encoding or video/photo editing?
If not a quad will do nothing for you and will drain more battery same goes for SSD. Since you're a college student I'm thinking battery life might be of some importance. -
Hey, I just got the Canadian Y470 with these specs
2nd generation Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM Processor ( 2.00GHz 1333MHz 6MB )
Windows 7 64 bit home premium
8GB RAM
500GB HD
USB 3.0
No blu-ray
For $850. -
Interested in y570 any reviews up yet?
-
If I purchase the y470 I will put up a nice detailed review. Will be deciding this weekend (plus 1-2 weeks shipping)
-
Still waiting for delivery.
-
-
Just find some online coupons
-
-
I know everyone is interested in the y570 with i7, but I just bought the y470 (i5). I will post a review ASAP (Wait for shipping, then give a couple days)
-
I am about to pull the trigger on this. Right now I am quoted at $687 for the Y470 core I5 model.
2nd generation Intel® Core i5-2410M Processor ( 2.30GHz 1333MHz 3MB )
NVIDIA GeForce GT 550M 1GB
4 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz
I will be using this for gaming. I just havent decided if I should get the core I3 or the core I5. The difference in the price is ~$60.
What do you guys think? -
Canadian buyers do not have a i5 version available ATM, I also wanted the i5 version cause I have no use for a i7 and a i3 is kinda low end.
At that price for a i5 + Gt 555M, you should pull the trigger. -
-
Received my Y570 yesterday. I reinstalled a fresh copy of Win7 64 Pro. The laptop is pretty nice but I'm also having a few issues with the Nvidia Optimus. Let me know if you have any questions or want pictures of anything specific.
-
-
The colors are fantastic. Brightness is pretty good but definitely has a sweet spot where it is most even. Meaning, the viewing angles aren't anything to write home about but they are way better than those of the HP dv6t-qe that I returned to buy the Y570. I'm probably just a little spoiled by the Super AMOLED screen on my Nexus S.
-
First off, what problems are you having with Optimus? This is important to me, since the excellent battery performance of sandy bridge laptops when combined with Optimus is the main reason I've waited until now to buy a laptop. Which leads to the obvious question... what are you getting for battery life, specifically for simple stuff like word precessing or surfing with the GPU off?
Otherwise, how well does the Super Silent Mode work? It was really nice to see this feature, and I'm hoping it works well. My dream laptop would be quiet and have decent battery life for simple tasks, yet be a decent gamer for when I'm looking to have fun. Obviously, in the past, you've been able to get one or the other, but I'm hoping that the Super Silent Mode combined with Sandy Bridge, the GT555M and Optimus offers a bit of both worlds.
Also, what's your impression of the build quality, the sturdiness of the hinges?
I'll stop there. There are other things I'm curious about, but, as long as there aren't flaws big enough for you to feel you should mention them, I'm not going to worry. If everything sounds good with the concerns I've already asked about, I think I can confidently go ahead and order one.
What you said about the screen sounds reasonable. I realize that it's not going to be the same as my Dell IPS Ultrasharp. I know what the situation is with most laptop screens, and I'll be happy with a decent example of the species... and it sounds like that's what you described.
Thanks for offering to answer questions. I was actually thinking of ordering one today despite the fact that I hadn't seen any feedback yet. (My desktop graphics card is dying a slow death, and I'd rather spend my money on a new laptop instead of either a new build or a new graphics card for an old build.) Getting a little input before I order would definitely help me relax about my decision a little bit. -
Can you guys tell me if the outer shell of the Y470 is made of plastic or aluminum? I can't seem to find the answer to that anywhere, also can somone provide the dimensions?
Thanks! -
Firstly, on the Optimus issue: after about 6 hours of troubleshooting and searching the internet I found out that the Y570 has a physical switch that turns on the Nvidia GPU. I'm very relieved.
On battery life, I haven't been able to do any serious testing yet. But the battery meter lists about 5.75 hrs on a full charge using the integrated gpu. I'll try to take some better readings later.
I haven't tried out the Super Silent mode yet but the laptop is pretty quiet...until you turn on and utilize the Nvidia GPU and its fan kicks in. The fan isn't any louder than I expected and should only be on for gaming sessions as the Intel 3000hd is plenty for browsing, HD video, and even maybe some Photoshop work.
The screen is glossy, but I don't really notice any major glare when I'm using it under normal inside lighting conditions. Like I said before, the colors are great.
The keyboard feels really solid and I was skeptical moving to the new chiclet type keys. It's still not going to be Thinkpad quality. There wasn't really any noticeable keyboard flex, but I didn't push down super hard on it either, a test that doesn't really make sense anyway. The back of the screen does flex a bit when you press in on it, but it is plastic. The back of the HP DV6t-qe was metal and it didn't flex but it did make those wavy impressions in the screen when you just grabbed it to adjust the angle (annoying).
The only cosmetic issue that actually bugs me at this point is the bezel around the screen seems slightly bowed at one point and I can press on it and it is springy because there is a small space between it and the next layer of the bezel. I hope that makes my point, I don't know how else to describe it. Also the bezel is glossy (dumb).
Overall, I'm very satisfied with my purchase, especially for its price. I don't expect a perfect chassis for a non-workstation type laptop.
I hope this helps, let me know if you need anything else. -

Thanks again!
