Are there any instructions to remove the whitelist, modify the BIOS to install a non-lenovo approved wireless card?

I only found information on the S10 and other thinkpad laptops

Well I got a RAM upgrade from 4GB to 8GB and it makes a noticeable difference in BF3. Also got the Cooler Master Notepal U2 cooler which is awesome. I play BF3 with most settings High and a couple Ultra with Shadows on Low, AA off and HBAO/SSAO off. Runs average of 30+ fps.

My current laptop has a 15" 1280x800 screen, and the resolution just doesn't cut it for multitasking, so that's why I wanted a higher res screen. If it's not possible to have both the upgraded screen and the webcam/microphone, then I think I'll go with a different computer. Thanks for the info!

    Hi mdnoor,

This sounds like an overheating issue at first glance. Are the games you are playing require a heavy system loan? When the computer goes through Windows Experience Index testing, it uses 100% of processor capacity so it may be that it will overheat during full load, but your game is not needing enough processor usage to overheat.

Is the bottom of the computer hot when you are testing? That may be another indication. For a more factual approach, download SpeedFan and watch the temperatures as you are gaming or running windows experience testing. Report back what your peak temperatures for your GPU and CPU cores are.

Let me know if you need me to explain anything else and good luck!

    Try this link here: http://www.almico.com/speedfan445.exe

The GPU temperature doesn't seem that high but I am still not convinced that the CPU isn't overheating and hitting the kill switch on the laptop. The max CPU temperature is typically around 100 celcius so if it climbs above that, it may turn off your machine.

See what temperatures you get and let us know. Other than that mdnoor, you may have to call Lenovo to get it repaired.

I asked a while back about the optimal settings for multiplayer in bf3 for the y570 but i did not find exactly what I was looking for. So you manage to run the game in mutliplayer with a consistent 30+ fps on high settings? Is that smooth enough for multiplayer? I am trying to find the smoothest + highest quality settings i can find for bf3 :)

I have updated my video drivers to the latest. I am not sure I get that high fps.

Hey guys, How often should I apply new thermal compound on the CPU? I've owned a Y570 (i5 version) for 3 months now, every time I play games, CPU temp goes up to 80-85 degree. Is that too high? should I put on some arctic silver?

OK So I just finished playing a 64 player Caspian round for about 45 minutes.

Stock CPU and GPU settings. My CPU topped at 81C and GPU 67C. This is with fan on Efficient Thermal dissipation and my laptop laying on a wood table. I do have a Notepal U2, but that is not with me currently.

    NVIDIA drivers 285.62

    Anyways, with BF3 settings of:
    Texture Quality: ULTRA
    Shadow Quality: LOW
    Mesh Quality: ULTRA
    Terrain Quality: ULTRA
    Terrain Decoration: ULTRA
    Antialiasing Defferred: OFF
    Antialiasing Post: OFF
    Motion Blur: OFF
    Anisotropic: 16X
    Ambient Occlusion: OFF

On Caspian 64 player I would average upper 20's with many in 30s and with a lot of action it dipped to lower 20s. It really is fairly smooth. Now on other maps, it is 30s easy. I prefer Metro or Bazaar or Tehran, and it is in 40s most of the time.

If you want to get 30 constant on Caspian, lower your stuff to Medium and you have no issues. It still looks good. I was playing with Ultra Textures and medium everything else and it still looks good and plays great. Believe it or not, it is very smooth at 30 and it is not nearly as bad when it dips into lower 20s. I am fine with it.

Now, I am about to overclock the GPU and see what I get.

    Hey guys,

So I just got Y470. It's pretty fast, that part is great. I have a question about the display -- anyone else feeling like their screen is 'grainy'/pixel-y? I switched from VAIO 15 incher (same max resolution as this laptop though), and I don't think I noticed this kind of display issue there. I am not sure if this applies to all models (the way it's supposed to be), or if I got a lemon. It's not a driver issue, is it? Gonna update all of them right now to check.

I could try taking a picture but you probably won't be able to see much...

Just changed my wireless card in my Y470 to the 6205! :D

It feels snappier, but how do I get a more objective test of performance?

(i was using a high gain external wireless-n adaptor before switching to the 6205)

Be sure you make these changes:

Wireless Networking — What are the recommended settings for 802.11n connectivity?
Intel® Centrino® Wi-Fi Products — How to access and configure advanced Wi-Fi adapter settings

by the way how did you get the wireless card to work in the Y470? I ordered a 6205 card about 2 days ago and have been reading that i need to make changes in the BIOS, something I'd rather not do, please tell me your way is easier

I just got an ideapad Y570 today. After running some initial benchmarks, I'm concerned about what's wrong.

    This laptop is:

    Win 7 Home Prem 64-bit
    Intel Core i7-2670QM @ 2.2ghz
    Geforce 555M
    8GB DDR3 RAM

So far, with the 285.62 drivers, I've gotten:

    3DMark 06 - 4677
    PCMark Vantage - 8301
    3DMark Vantage - P1811

This thing isn't even performing at half of what my Asus G51VX could do. Any ideas?

I played Dungeon Defenders today. I was running the game at 1366 x768 on High (highest setting) with VSync on. I also had Fraps running which was at an unwavering 60 fps throughout most of the game, occassionally I'd see a drop to low-mid 50s for a second.

Is Optimus enabled? There is a silver switch on the front of the laptop (right side) when it is switched on there will be a light illuminated next to it (left side of the switch). This is the Optimus switch. If the programs still aren't running under the 555m, you can manually add them to the list to run using the 555m.

As mentioned already, you need to enable the GPU by hitting the switch on the front.

I bought the y570 (i7-2670, 8gb ram, 500gb 7200rpm hdd, no blue ray or ssd) on tuesday during lenovo's year end doorbuster sale after reading the first 70 pages of this forum. I then proceded to read tge remaining 150 pages (cuz I have free time and the laptop won't come til next week sometime) and so far the only things I've seen besides rave reviews is a few lemons and a certain person who is very picky about screens. I've been gaming the same desktop since 2002 and right now I can only manage borderlands on low settings at 800x600 res, so this sucker is gonna seem like....I can't even think of a good analogy but I'm pumped right now! :) I do have a few questions though...
1.) All the BIOS discussions, and some of the more technical driver discussions, are a lurked over my head, so does anyone know of a good program that I could use to scan for updates to those every once in awhile? Or will the computer do that automatically?
2.) I would like to avoid needing an external hdd if I can (mainly cuz I suck at keeping track of things like that) so how full can the 500gb hdd get before I notice the comp slowing down? I'm talking movies and music and stuff, not a s**t load of programs lol
3.) Can you set certain folders to back themselves up in the onekey partition so you wouldn't lose them in a restore?
Thanks in advance for any help!

    I guess that did it.

    3DMark 06 - 9644
    3DMark Vantage - P4792

    Does that seem about right?

Could anyone tell me how to partition the hard driver? It has already 4 partition with of 650 G of driver c.

You cannot create a new volume in this unallocated space because the disk already contains maximum number of partitions"

So I'm still looking around at laptops to buy (mix of gaming and school note taking, much more school and a not as often gaming) and had a few questions for Y570 owners:

    - How is typing on this laptop? Do you experience any wrist probs/carpal tunnel from typing on this without a separate keyboard/mouse?

    - If you had the option to take a 1080p screen, would you have taken it?

    - How does this run games like Battlefield 3 and DotA 2? FPS, problems, overheating?

    Thanks!

I have this issue when I boot up the computer. The screen has certain colors, but a bit after boot up (desktop opens, etc.) the colors change. I have calibrated and adjusted the color, I think the colors it changes to are the right ones. How can I make sure it doesn't switch around and startup and just goes straight to those colors? Thanks

Typing is fine. I have a tendency to hit the #4 on the numeric keypad instead of the Enter key, but that might just be me getting used to the new keyboard. No wrist problems although I've only had it for about a month now.

I definitely would've taken a higher resolution screen. But I think the current resolution is fine.

I play Skyrim, and have absolutely no problems. I don't know what FPS I'm running. The CPU and GPU temps are usually sustained at around 65 - 75 degrees with spikes to 90.

Well...just ran into my first issue. This morning, I turned her on and it got hung up with just my wallpaper and a mouse which I can move. I hard restarted it a couple times and still same issue. I boot into safe mode and it works perfectly fine. I then reboot again, and instead of restarting it, I leave it be and it took nearly 5 minutes of it sitting there and it then goes to my desktop with everything working perfectly fine. Quite confused as to what is going on. No error messages are given and the hdd is not doing anything during that long time.

    Any ideas?

*EDIT* NM. I hit F8 and chose last known good configuration and now everything is peachy. Sorry about that. Still weird though.

So I know this is going to repeat some questions but here's what I want to ask...

-How is the 14 inch screen for gaming? I want something portable (but powerful) for college at a doable price, and this seems like my best choice.

-Is its small size prone to overheating? Is it really that small?

-Is it 14 inch something you'd feel comfortable using for etextbooks, with enough battery life for college?

Well I did some benchmarking with 3DMark and Unigine. I did both stock and overclocked (900/1800/1750).

    Here are the results:
    3DMark06: Stock = 9991; OC = 11412 ~ 15% increase
    3DMark Vantage: Stock = P5039; OC = 5934 ~ 18% increase
    3DMark11: Stock = P1216; OC = P1429 ~ 17% increase
    Unigine Heaven: Stock = 419 (min 3.4; max 46.9; avg 16.7) OC = 501 (min 10.8; max 57.3; avg 19.9) which comes to a 20% increase!

All in all those are some great results. I definitely noticed an improvement in Battlefield 3. Great machine and can only get better once I change out the tim.

Got my laptop last week or so and this is one of the best products out yet. Truly recommend Lenovo over Apple or Sony. I got the Y470 model and I'm loving every single bit of it. My only complaint is the optical drive which is the good ol' fashioned flimsy disk drive that almost has no durability what-so-ever and the screen hinges are also somewhat weak as well.

Now I've got a question, because I ran into something and I'm not sure what. Whenever I open or close the disk drive, it gives off a sound for one second. It sounds "natural" but I'm just wondering if that sound is supposed to be there or not. And in addition, I also hear this sound when I boot up my laptop. Just trying to make sure that my laptop isn't undergoing some problems.

And I can't help but notice a slight opening on the sides of the screen hinges--which reveal a part of the wire connecting to the screen. Does anyone else see what I'm seeing? It's not a big problem but it is bothering me somehow...

Also is there any way to make it so the switch let's u manually choose Intel or NVIDIA gpu? I read about a lot of problems with optimus and it seems like that would be the easiest solution.

    Thanks!

Hi I fixed the problem for the Battlefield 3 Stutter/Glitch. Especially when the power cord is plugged in.

15.6" HD Glare with integrated camera 1366x768
    750GB 5400 HDD

1.First Off Is I made Sure I deleted all the bloatware and Defrag my comp using CCleaner and Smart Defrag v 2.2

2.Second is I Uninstalled the Power Management (Lenovo) and Tried it that way. I found out that didn't really help but when i did uninstall it my drivers said i had a unknown driver ACPI? Well that's the AC Power Management Drivers so i re-installed it. I then messed with a few settings and notice that on default it stays at Energy Saving

Click the Second one ***High Performance***
    [IMG]
    By dontkillkenny14 at 2011-12-30
and then go into the Settings [IMG]

Then go to Smart Power-Saving and Uncheck the first box

After you get that done i recommend restarting the comp. but up to you.

    3. Unpack your CPU. on default for Windows 7 for some reason you computer uses only half of your cores. So lets use them all especially since you paid for them all. Here is the link to do it.
Disable CPU Core Parking For Multi-Core Processors | Faster 7 Episode 20 - YouTube

    4. Reinstall the Nvidia 285.62 Graphics Driver From the Lenovo Website. And Restarted the comp again.

    5. I Downloaded the MSI AfterBurner 220 beta 9 and installed it.
Created 2 Settings one at stock and second at
    Core Clock (MHz) 900
    Shader Clock (Mhz) 1800
    Memory Clock (MHz) 1750
(Some Say overclocking helped for me it didn’t so there you go)

I turn these settings on sometimes but i found it that it will play at default settings. but if you want to overclock your settings you can Just remember that your Laptop with be hotter. 80C at default and almost to 87C at overclocked settings. The FPS i get is around 30-40. 60-80 in Jets i dont know why but thats what it is.

After i changed the settings i restarted the comp. ( yes it is annoying but it does help)

K this time I checked the Power management for Windows and Lenovo both on (High Performance)
    Then i Checked my Cores
Then i Check the FPS/ After burner
Then I Check and usually just leave the Button Switch for GPU on.
Then I Check the Game Settings
    Hopefully this works for you

Hello everyone... I just ordered a Y470 I5 4GB 500GB HDD a few days ago. It should arrive soon. After reading well over 100 pages of this forum, I have a short list of "What-To-Dos" when it does arrive. If any of you would like to add to my list due to your personal experiences, please feel free to.
    Here is my list:

    - Update/upgrade any drivers listed on the Lenovo Downloads page.
    - Update BIOS from Lenovo Downloads page. (suggestions on version)
    - Create backup DVDs.

I do appreciate all those who posted useful information over the past few months. You made my choice of which machine to purchase quite easy.

Happy New Year to you all.

    Thanks Peter.

I don't think I'm going this route. I've been looking at the 6250 WiMax card, and I just wanted to know if the 6205 card worked. It's good to know.

Does your Bluetooth still work? At the Intel wireless site, they don't have an "X" next to the Bluetooth column on the 6205.

    Aquulei,
You can check at the Y470 download page, but all of those drivers will be older then the ones you will receive installed in your new machine. Likewise, you should have BIOS of 47CN31WW(V2.09) with a release date of 10/28/2011 loaded on your new Y470. An older 47CN28WW(V2.06) BIOS is on the Driver & Downloads page. That release date was listed as 2011-11-23. Go figure! I've been having a running "discussion" on the Lenovo site about why their Y470 update page is so out-of-date.

Stick with the Lenovo approved Intel HD Graphics Driver 8.15.10.2462. If you update your driver to the current 8.15.10.2559 via the Intel update site, it breaks the Fn + ↑Up/Down↓ on screen display for the brightness level.

Yes, the first thing you should do is create the Factory Restore Disks. I think you will be happy with your new laptop. I know I am.

Wow thank you! I was wondering why my OSD wasn't working. Also, my Y570 came with bios 2.05 and I updated to their 2.06. Does the 570 have a 2.09?

Just making sure, the Y470's with GT550M has Optimus onboard, right?

Yes, it does. There is a silver switch on the front rigth side of the laptop. Sliding it to the ON position (you'll see a light illuminate) will enable Optimus.

    Wildcard,
Don't quote me on this, but I "think" the new 570's come shipped with the 2.09 BIOS. It's been around for awhile. There are links, in this thread, to some MOD 2.09 BIOS's. I don't mess around with my BIOS, so that is the one update that I wait for Lenovo to officially release, on their website.

    I'm such a wuss!

    @ Dragnoak

I'm unaware of any modded BIOS 2.09 for the Y470/Y570 but there are links on this thread for modded BIOS 2.08.

I'll post up a link to BIOS 2.09 once they have it up on the Chinese site, I check on it pretty frequently.

If you're not in rush and do not want to use the Chinese BIOS then the official BIOS 2.09 will eventually show up on the Lenovo US download site in a couple months.

I am on 2.06 and I do not have any issues, so I do not care too much about changing the bios. I too will wait for an official one from Lenovo.

Just pulled the gun on the Y470,the 2nd cheapest one with the i5. I'm really excited to get it, I also ordered a SSD to install on it. I have never replaced a harddrive before, how hard would it be? Is there anything I need to know before I continue? Im giving the HD that comes with the Y470 to my dad for his laptop. Is it okay that I would be running my computer on the SSD alone?

Did you order a mSATA SSD or regular 2.5" SSD?
