    Hi,

I am planning to buy this Lenovo Y50 tomorrow - http://secure1.ncix.com/products/?sku=99783

While looking up any Y50 problems, I also noticed that many Y50 Touch models tended to get broken hinges easily.

Is this applicable to the normal Y50? Probably not to the same extend I'd imagine due to the lack of stress on the panel?

    Thanks.

Yeah the extra weight of the touch model clearly stressed those hinges.
I have not seen a complaint about the non touch model but it may just be something that rears its ugly head later on as people own them for longer.
Hopefully not and it may be a non issue period for non touch.

    Thanks,

I guess I shouldn't have much to worry about.. but I do plan on swapping out the panel so it does worry me if the hinge breaks and I need to file for warranty.

I wouldn't worry about that as long as you're careful there is no way that They will ever be able to tell that you opened it up to remove the screen.

FYI OP: The Y50 is getting a refresh: IPS panels will now be offered, and the GPU bumped up to 960M.

Hi, I ended up buying the Y50 regardless.

It was an open-box item, $810 after taxes. It would've costed around $1030 after taxes with EPP (and even more just normally). Throw in cost of a replacement IPS panel, and it still would've been much cheaper this route.

    I would've waited, but I hear the 960M is a 860M refresh anyways.
