Are you on WiFi or Lan? If you are on WiFi could you try with cable?
Did you try offline gaming? CS:GO with bots and LoL training only for example.
Are you sure your computer is using the 860M when gaming? My Y50 didn't, I had to force it.
Do you have an SSD or a SSHD?
Do you try to play games on battery or plugged in?

There are tons of problems reported for those two games in particular so its hard to pinpoint where exactly is the problem. For example recently on a different forum a guy was having stuttering issues with CS:GO, turned out the issues shows only when using the combination of wireless connection and SSD, with HDD he could run CS:GO on WiFi without problem but with SSD he must use cable... The laptop in question was not a Y50 but you get my point.

Yup I've tried throttle stop and it works great. I had major stuttering issues with CSGO before when it was throttling and even went as low as 1.7Ghz. But now it works well. Temperatures hit about mid 80s for CPU and low 80s on GPU now though.

Has anyone tried playing Splinter Cell Blacklist on the Y50 UHD? I put it at 1920x1080 resolution, but instead of scaling, it shows a small 1920x1080 box centered in the middle of a "black" screen. Any way to make it scale to 1920x1080 other than manually changing the resolution before playing?

Hey Guys, just curious, do you recommend any particular throttle stop software? I want to unrestrict the processor until it hits 80 degrees. Or is that too high of a temperature for a processor to reach? Thanks so much!

I think you'll really like it. You have to remember though that a laptop at that price isn't near as good as a desktop at that price. That being said, this is still a VERY good laptop (in my personal opinion, of course). I work at as a computer tech at a local business so I see all kinds of laptops. This has to be one of the best laptops I've seen/used, considering its size, speed, and how quiet it is. If you've never had a SSD before, you're in for a huge treat. :)

I had this issue with dead island. What worked for me was alt+tabing out of the game then back into it. Different game but it's worth a try.

Just picked up a Y50 tonight from Tiger Direct.. I know the IPS screen thing is false info on their page but I confirmed with manager on duty that I can return it based on false information for those wary.. Man this screen is probably the worst i've ever seen since a Dell I owned back in like 07..

First thing I noticed was how the CPU clamps down at 2.4ghz (base clock) under load after the turbo timer runs out.. This is new to me.. Most i7-4700HQs i've had will run turbo forever .. There is no power limit throttling or temp issues.. It just simply clamps at 2.4ghz.

Otherwise so far so good.. Speakers are pretty wonderful, compared to a Retina MBP15, they sound better but the MBP15 has clearer high notes but everything else the Lenovo slams on sound wise. More to follow after a bit..

For anyone interested in purchasing this laptop - I have the Core i5 version, and unless I was using ThrottleStop incorrectly, my laptop doesn't seem to have any throttling at all. Probably very few people on here have the i5 version so I'd be interested to hear if it's the same for others, but if all the i5s really don't throttle then it could be a pretty big reason to purchase it over the i7 unless you're running games/applications that can really use all four cores in the i7.

I'm still having freezing problems with the hard drive - seems like most on here have versions with SSDs or have upgraded their hard drives, which I guess I'm going to have to do as well. The hard drive is just honestly terrible, and having a game freeze for 2-3 seconds every time the drive has to spin up is beyond ridiculous. I've tried turning off every power-saving option I can find to keep the drive from ever spinning down while the computer is on, but nothing's worked so far. Really a shame as I didn't want to have to shell out extra for an SSD...

New to Windows 8.1 and y50 so I am still trying to figure out why the sound is muffled.
It turns out that only the Subwoofer is producing the sound and the two front speakers are not.

I am using the latest Realtek audio driver for windows 8.1 (64bit).
If I unstall the driver, there is absolutely no sound from both the front as well as the subwoofer,

=> If there is hardware problem with the front speaker, I need to find out now before returning. If there is no hardware problem with the front speaker, I need advice on how to troubleshoot.

=> searching the forum here does not indicate anyone has any problem with the front speakers and this makes me worry

=> Like others, I constantly having the fans with clicking sound and I wonder if I am unlucky to receive one with tend to produce the clicking sound.

=> The key question, should I return the y50?

It's supposed to arrive today, I'm excited to play around with it. My current computer can't even play minecraft on the lowest setting, so I should be in for a treat.

Quick question: when using an external monitor on the 4k Y50, does one still run into the 48 fps problem? (assuming the external isn't also locked @ 48)

So I just got this laptop recently and its pretty good except one problem. My download speed is abysmal (using wifi). Trying to download dota 2 it rarely goes to 1mb/s and fluctuates around 200 kb/s - 500 kb/s. My 5 year older laptop downloads dota 2 at a constant 1.5 mb/s so I dont think its my internet. Every other internet based function also slows down drastically while I'm trying to download things. Any idea on how to fix this? I have the ac 7260 card.

I have the AUO and I'm not happy, I'll replace the screen whenever I decide I can spare the extra money.
What drivers did you use, the one from Lenovo or from Intel? I don't have that problem, Steam downloads always max out my internet connection. I use Intel's newest drivers.

I've tried searching the thread for this, but I'm still confused. I'm thinking about swapping the hard drive for an SSD; do I have to worry about the connecton? SATA I, II, III, mSATA? Which does this laptop have?

Well. I just purchased a Y50 last night from Lenovo's site.

    i7 4710
    16 GB RAM
    4GB 860M
1TB HDD to be replaced with a 500 GB SSD
3 year on site repair service
    3 year Lojack

$1530 w/ tax for the computer and warranty/Lojack and then $260 for the SSD.

I think that's a fantastic deal. I was really considering the MSI GS60, but I couldn't make myself buy it because I just couldn't justify $1700 to start before upgrades and warranties.

Does this actually ship from China? That sucks.

y70 looks cool - it also looks like they moved the reverse backslash key from right above the enter key over to the left of the Z key and in doing so, made the enter key much larger, and the shift key much smaller - could be annoying for gamers to have smaller shift keys.

well there are a few things that are disappointing already about this
    1. keyboard arrangement didn't seem that much better...
    2. why are there no optical drives in a 17in model? I call bs on this one
    3. the cooling will the be same......sigh...
    4. they should've given us more ports

BUT there are more things to expect
    1. POSSIBLE mSATA/M.2 SLOTS?!!
    2. I wonder if they are gonna cheap us on display again LOL. but this time at least we know for sure it'll be a TN panel, so far I don't see any besides HP have 17in IPS, and lenovo surely isn't gonna use it, hopefully a good TN panel
    3. maybe more SATA slots?

this is still a little weird because everything besides the keyboard looks identical to y50... but if you look closely on the screen I think it looks larger...

is there any difference between the Y70's 860m and Y50's?
that G from the "GDDR5" makes me confused. :))
also, what's up with that "Clickpad" pointing device?

Lenovo logic: Increase screen size = make shift keys even smaller

lol I also like the professional photo of the defective trackpad, sunken in on one corner.

Well, that was unexpected! Good thing I wanted a 15" instead of a 17" anyways.
And to be honest, if one starts taking large 17" laptops into consideration there are many better options than the Y50/Y70. Most notably the Asus ROG G750 series, or even an Alienware. The Y50 is already barely portable, imo, and if one is ready to forget portability thickness and weight don't really matter either. The sort of Canadian/bilingual keyboard setup with the tall Enter key and small left Shift key is really lame too. Overall, I'm unimpressed, lol.

What's intriguing though is that the screen is apparently both Touch and Anti-Glare. If it is also high-quality and has nice contrast and colour gamut, which is possible, it'll make me a bit sad that they couldn't put a similar screen on the Y50. Touch is cool and Anti-Glare is convenient and having both would be pretty rad indeed. If the screen specs apart from that don't suck.

This might be a silly/dumb question, but...

With the plastic screen protectors you can get for phones and tablets, is there anything for loptops?
My thought is if there is, some form of anti-glare screens? (to make a matt effect)

Can't say I'm excited about the Y70 at all.
Except for the screen size, at has the same specs as the Y50, including battery.
    No thanks.

I got an open box y50 touch from best buy for 999, so far I really like it but I'm having a problem with it that is a complete deal breaker unless someone can help me fix it.

The problem is whenever I use my 2012 razer deathadder the games I play ( titanfall, league of legends) have massive fps drops. But if I don't use the mouse or use a cheap logitech mouse the fps stays stable. It seems like I have tried everything.

So far I have tried the following: updating nvidias driver to the latest 340, reinstalling razer synapse, changing all of the in game settings, setting all of my battery options to maximum performance, using the windows 8.1 mouse fixer patch/tool, reinstalling the games, running in administrative mode with high dpi scaling off and windows 8 compatibility on, disabling the touch pad while the mouse is plugged in, making sure the games are being run with the 860m and closing all of my unnecessary background applications.

I have also checked my temps to see if my hardware is throttling but the issue occurs when the temps are as low as 60C and I think that the lag going away while I use another mouse removes the possibility of a hardware issue.

So I'm not really sure what to do at this point other than return the laptop for a new one (and most likely lose the 150 I saved from the only open box they had) or try to find a gaming mouse that works, also the problem seems to stop temporarily after I restart my computer but it always seems to come back.
    Thanks for the help.

Since there's no display port so any external monitor is going to be limited to 30Hz running in UHD because it's only HDMI 1.4 not 2.0. There are some USB 3.0 to DP adapters but they are limited to 30Hz at this point. I'm not a gamer so the 30Hz doesn't matter to me. I'm running a Dell UP2414Q and it's gorgeous. It will do 60Hz @1920 x 1080 but any higher maxes out at 30.

I have the same mouse and I dont seem to have that problem , but my laptop is the UHD although it really shouldn't make a difference. I know it sounds a bit silly but is your power options on high performance when you are running it with the mouse.

Anyone use them? do the distort the image any?

I'm seriously wondering this also...Been having frame skipping problems on only certain games and other users on the forum have reported the same issue also. No one seems to have the fix ): ... really hope its the stock HDD because if it is, I will be switching out to an SSD asap.

I've been having the same problem out of the box. also feel like it's the HDD but it could also be the CPU throttling too.
My previous computer was a quad core AMD a6 apu and I've never had hiccups like that when I played games.

No frame skip issues here on ssd drive. Everything works flawless, except for that fan clicking sound, iGP throttling on load to 450Mhz and missing turbo boost. The rest is good...did i mention the almost B&W screen and typing issues...? Gotta love this laptop

I have had pretty much all the new Asus, MSI, Lenovo, etc. machines lately.. I do and I dont feel bad for returning so many but just trying to find a machine that feels right.. But I think the Y50 will go back as well. It power limit throttles when using Prime95.. like immediately. And will shut down completely from heat when Furmark + Prime95 are running together (although admittedly most laptops can't handle this test).

I think most people will tell me I have a defective Y50 but these people really don't test machines like I do.

So if anybody cares about my results:

Firstly, Lenovo cripples the i7-4700HQ/4710HQ in these, and it's all because of thermal capacity/limitations. Do not expect to run your i7 at turbo boost for days like other larger gaming machines with better power delivery/cooling. The y50 will run turbo for about 10-15 seconds depending on stress test before locking to 2.4ghz/2.5ghz (base clocks).

    The Not So Good:

Prime95 Blend/Torture test with Throttlestop set to not throttle turbo boost = 100% power limit throttling, HIGH 80c++ temps.
Prime95 Blend/Torture stock EC settings = CPU locks to 2.4ghz (as expected) and mid to high 70c's temps but no power limit issues (due to less cpu wattage used)..

    Where the Y50 is Fantastic:

Furmark, stock GPU clocks, standard test for a few hours: 72C stabilized.. No GPU throttling down on the speed!
Furmark with GPU at +135/+135: 78C stabilized, still no throttling!

The Scary (but it's not fair because not many laptops can actually handle this test):

Furmark + Prime95 torture together all stock = 87C on GPU and 99C+ on CPU.. Major throttling on CPU, will lock to 800mhz until it cools down OR completely shuts down from heat from hitting 100C on CPU. GPU runs hot during this test but it's not throttling too much even still... Maybe about 15% throttle.

Same test as above but with throttlestop turned on and overclocked GPU = Immediate shut down once CPU hits 100C..

People brag on the thermals in the Y50 and if you're referring to the GPU than yes I agree.. But the thermal handling of the CPU is pretty average at best, a repaste might help a tiny bit but idle temps line up showing me the stock paste job is good already.

Would I recommend this machine? Absolutely.. Some things that bother me is that you'll have to spend another $200+ on SSD + IPS screen replacement to make this a really fast/nice machine though and it's getting close to the base MSI GS60 Ghost cost which already has SSD + HDD slots filled and a very nice Samsung PLS screen. Although the Y50 runs way quieter and cooler to the touch compared to the GS60. That and who wants a Kepler 860M anyways in the Ghost.

If you can somehow cope with the worst TN panel known to man and a slow 5400rpm (some models may have a Hybrid hdd) drive then you will probably love this machine..

I've had the Lenovo Y50 for 3 weeks now and i will probably be returning it this weekend. Here is my review on the good things and the bad things and why I will be returning it.

Spec: AUiO Display Full HD non-touch, i7-4710HQ, GTX 860M, 16GB Ram, 256GB SSD, No Windows, 999 Euros

    The Good:

    1. Bang for the buck. Where I live (Germany) you wont find another laptop that packs this much power into a fairly slim and light Laptop for less than 1000 Euros. The only alternative is the Gigabyte P27G v2 which costs 30 Euros more and comes in heavy 17 inch chassis. Clevo is more expensive, Asus is way more expensive and if I wanted to bake some cake while gaming, then i might think about buying a MSI Laptop.

    2. Performance. It runs fast, it loads fast, it boots fast, it games fast.

    3. Noise. Fairly quiet during normal use and gaming.

    4. Sound: One of the best I ever heard on a Laptop.

    5. Cooling: GPU and CPU never went above 90C. Even during long hours of gaming.

    6. Keyboard. Not Spectacular, but good enough.

    The Bad:

    1. Touchpad: Looks cheap, feels cheap, doesn't work well in general.

    The Ugly:

    1. Display: While the display in itself is below average in terms of brightness, colour reproduction, sharpnesss, the absolute deal breaker were the atrocious viewing angles. It is IMPOSSIBLE to find a good viewing angle, unless you don't move your head. Move your body/head even slightly and the screen goes from barely usable into full retard mode.

    2. Lenovo Support: Absolute Joke.

    3. Chassis: The palm resting area is impossible to clean. Fiber and dust are basically glued to the rubber material. The 2 "grills" on the back are super ugly and superuseless, the plastic surrounding it, broke during transport, now it even looks uglier.

    4. Driver Support: Absolute Joke. After weeks I still can't find the Dolby sound drivers. Lenovo managment settings, which some useful and unique settings are only supported on Windows 8. You don't get a recovery DVD, if you bought the laptop without Windows, be prepared to spend days looking, finding and setting up drivers.

    5. WLAN. The Realtek WIFI card is an absolute joke.

All in all, this is one of the consumer unfriendliest laptops I ever owned. But if you only care about performance, then it is probably one of the best, if not the best laptop out there.I will probably settle for the new Acer Aspire V5-573G instead.
