Okay, the refreshed Y50 is out with 960m (Lenovo Y50-70 Laptop - 59440675/59440654/59443536/59440644) and an IPS display. But the older model had some other very disturbing design flaws as discussed at the following links:

    and,
    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo...0-Big-fan-pulsating-and-clicking/td-p/1764715
Now, can anyone confirm whether those issues have been addressed in the new model or are they still remin and make this otherwise grand laptop a bad choice?

edit: According to wirecuter, the best budget laptop at this point is ASUS ROG G551JW (DS71: TN Display, no SSD/DS74: IPS Display, 128GB SSD). They also have 960m graphics card. And also, the ROG G751JL with 965m will come out soon. IS IT WISE TO BUY Y50 AT THIS POINT?

    Hey!
So far, I've done some research on the Y50's hinge problem- I've owned 2 other gaming laptops (M11X and M14X) with hinge issues, and I need portability for my classes, so I was wary of this kind of thing.
What I've found is that the past problems seemed to only occur in the touch models- which makes sense, as touchscreen functionality necessitates the use of additional hardware. For the new versions (IPS display, &c.) the touch functionality has been removed.

I bought mine a short time ago, so I'm really hoping this issue has been fixed. Please chime in, other Y50 users!

    Hi PepeCZ,
I too plan to buy this laptop, have you found a solution to this issue. Did you end up buying the y50 anyways? Please respond.

Have had the Y50 for about 6 months now, I travel quite alot due to school and handle my Y50 a little bit more roughly than most, so far it's taken it like a champ and absolutely no hinge creaking or problems!

I have the non touch i7 860m version.
