Hello everyone, ive been seeking help for my lenovo y50 overheating issues from lenovo support, and all they say is "send it to our repair center" I dont really want to do this as i dont have the time and all my summer will be done by then, so i want to do some troubleshooting mysef.

    Problem:

When i start my laptop, straight away after boot up, the bottom right hand corner hots up, which is normal beause that the hard drive. But after a few brief minutes, when i open some chrome tabs, skype and spotify, it gets warm, certainly not burning, but warm. When i am gaming, well, what can i say, its just shambolic, a game like battlefield 3 on high settings gets me about 10-15 fps, switching to low settings makes it playable, never mind the temperatures that rise up to about 90-100 degrees celcius, almost 210 Fahrenheit, how has this thing not melted yet? i dont know to be honest. I use this laptop on a wood desk, but i have raised the bottom portion by about 2.5 inches so there should be plenty of breathing room for the internals.

I also experience stuttering during games, even on low quality 1280x768

    Some thoughts of my own:

The cooling vent that is under the lenovo logo on the bottom on the monitor seems to be half blocked, not sure if this is normal.

Im also pretty sure im being throttled due to over heating issues, is 405 mhz normal?

Here are my stats while posting this thread and having no games open...

    Hi,

I had similar issues with the new model.
You should try repasting CPU and GPU.

I did it, temperatures are nearly 10°C lower (GPU reached 90-93 °C before, after 5 minutes playing, now around 80-84°C).

Also tried using a cooling pad and got better temperatures, approx. 75 °C on GPU.

Also, while not gaming, stay in power saver mode, you can do every single task other than game in power saver. And bf3 should be maxed out 60fps with the y50, are you sure the integrated card is not being used? In anycase, repaste it if i were you and also use compressed air on the filter at the bottom (open it up and push air towards the outside)
