Hello NoteBookReview Community! Recently I was looking to purchase a Lenovo Y510P Laptop to suit my gaming needs, but I was curious as to how it performs. If you have owned, or own a Y510P (Preferably with the GT755M SLI + i7 *as that's what I'm looking to get*) please leave any comments you have about it here! Thanks in advance!

    The specific model I'm looking at buying: Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p (59406636) Gaming Notebook Intel Core i7 4700MQ (2.40GHz) 8GB Memory 1TB + 8GB SSHD HDD Dual NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M SLI 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit - Newegg.com

Generally a good laptop, but some people have had issues with the ultrabay GPU overheating and throttling (negating any SLI performance gains). You might want to read up on this a little more and form your opinion.

Otherwise it's good, build seems solid, but ultimately time will tell.

Yeah I've been reading reviews from everywhere. I was reading reviews from Newegg, Microcenter and TigerDirect, and I pretty much found out that over 95% of people who bought it easily fixed those problems and love the laptop. I've also heard some things about wifi issues.

On a side note, I was going to buy the model with 6gb of RAM since it's 40$ cheaper than the 8gb version, how many slots does it have?

It has two slots from memory. If you're planning to upgrade the RAM yourself though, remember to get DDR3L modules, not DDR3.

I think for the most part WiFi is fine, as far as I know it's mostly driver issues. I haven't had any WiFi problems with mine. Remember that it is not dual band though.

2 slots for ram, I own y510p single 755m +8 gb ram, I pud the shdd in caddy and in the place, I put a 512gb ssd Samsung, I am not a gamer so I not need sli, also I find sli too hot and problematic, I prefer single vga...it is a solid/good laptop with his minus(relative old drivers, in windows the track it is strange for me,...)..

ehm... dont know what to think about Y510p to be honest :) i mean, ive always loved Lenovo Thinkpads and i was thinking to buy Y510p for a while.. so i did... i7-4700mq, 16GB ram, GT 750, Blueray rewriter... nice laptop, seems solid built... BUT, very annoying for me is that the keyboard backlight is constantly on, mine laptop doesn't come with msata/m.2 slot, humming/white noise from earphones, from unknown reasons ALS doesnt work ( dont even know if is it installed ) BIOS limitation, and Win 8/8.1 .... and 2.9 kg :) i mean, it is good laptop, dont get me wrong, it is worth the money, but some of these issues forcing me to sell it and buy something else...

you can actually turn off keyboard backlight by pressing Fn+Spacebar.. But I think it doesnt come with ALS? (Correct me if im wrong) So what I did was to just disable adaptive brightness in power settings and in intel properties as well..

Only things I can complain are first the trackpad, not that it is bad, but not definitely perfect. Although I uninstalled the current driver and updated to a higher version (unsigned) and I think it is better now. I have the synaptics, I heard if you have ELAN it is much better.

Next is the screen saturation/warmth. I found it warmer/yellower compared to my brothers laptop, and to my former laptop as well. What I did was to adjust color profile inside the intel display properties, so it is much better now.

    Hey guys,

I am a new father who needs a portable budget gaming laptop that I can also in use for meetings at work - really the best I've found is the Y50 and y510p. I know performance wise they are on par but how about the displays? Has anyone have a side by side comparison or spec compare? It's tough to get these last details discovered without any real pro reviews.

Check out the Y50 thread (the one with over 500 pages), to get an idea of what people think of the screen there. From what I've seen so far, a fair few are extremely unhappy with it, as it has extremely sub-par SRGB coverage. (Around 50%). EDIT: Pictures have also been posted, in case you are wondering.

The screen on the Y510p depends on what you get. The glossy 1080p panel is excellent in my opinion, with over 90% spectrum coverage. I wouldn't recommend the 1366 display, unless you will have it hooked up to an external monitor most of the time, or you want to save cash.

Yeah according to NotebookCheck's reviews, both the Y500's 1080p glossy panel (LG LP156WF1-TLC1) and Y510p's 1080p matte panel (LG LP156WF1-TLB2) have >90% sRGB coverage. The Y510p has higher max brightness and contrast ratio than the Y500. Black levels are about the same.

It's unfortunate that the Y50's 1080p display is such a step down from the previous models. Hopefully the 4K panel will be much better to justify the expected price premium, if it ever comes out.

i know that you can turn the backlight on and off + 2 settings on brightness... but i like to have it on sensor :))) like other laptops :)) It doesnt come with ALS? well i cant see it in Device Manager, but power settings gave me the option to enable or disable it... hmm... not using it too much on battery thou... never mind.. yep, touchpad.. synaptics here too... :(

I had the fortune of using the LG LP156WF1-TLC1 glossy panel, on the previous laptop that I had (Y580). Was one of the best panels I've experienced on a laptop, it was a delight to watch movies and play games on.

Now I am stuck with a poorer 1366 res display on the Y510p (which I didn't choose, was given this as a replacement), and it really made me look back and realize what I had lost. Needless to say, it didn't take me long before I went out and bought an external monitor. At one point I was contemplating replacing the panel myself (obviously with the same model :) ), but I thought the money would be better spent on other things, like an SSD.
