Hi,
I have recently bought a Y550 laptop and when I plug my earbuds or earphones I hear this "hissing" sound whenever an action involving sound occurs. When I double-click on a file I hear it, when I listen to music at low volume I hear it. Looks like the intensity is the same but whenever I do something at high volume it is just suppressed but still there. At low volume, it is really annoying because it almost washes out what you want to hear. When the computer is idle in terms of producing sound I don't hear anything so it's okay. I don't hear hissing from the speakers either. The computer is equipped with a Realtek card, anyone else experiencing the same "problem" ?
Regards,
Erdem

I have exactly the same problem as you have. Does anyone know a solution to this. It is really annoying, I can not leave the speaker or headphones plugged in, because it is too noisy.
Can any Y550 owners do this?
1. Plug in the headphone (you should hear no noise)
2. Open an mp3 file and play it (you should hear music+noise)
3. pause but leave the media player open (hear noise only)
It is very annoying because even if I can live with noise in the music/audio output etc, it remains there even if no audio are producing. -
I have a friend with an IdeaPad whose hissing changes depending on whether it's plugged in or not. That would make it a hardware issue, so that's probably not what you want to hear.

Yes the problem is worse when it's using external power. (98% of time the laptop is plugged in)
I think it is because the excess static charge not being grounded properly.
But still, it has noise whether or not it's plugged in. very annoying T_T
