The Y550 (324156U) is offered on NewEgg for only $999 ($200 off the regular price), but it does not say anything about Bluetooth or Blu-Ray. Are you looking at the same model but one with different specs and does it include the same $999 price tag as the one on NewEgg?

According to Lenovo, the Lenovo Windows 7 Enhanced Expeience is a uniquely optimised version of Windows 7 which is done at their factory itself.

I applied a 15% coupon during checkout on the Lenovo website and it brought the Y550p down to around $1,069. I hope a much better coupon will appear soon so that the price will come down much further.

I am trying to find the battery life for the Y550p, but to no avail. I know the $999 Y550 model on NewEgg is supposedly 4.5hrs.

The Y550p that I am looking at here goes for $1,249.00 and with the USP15SVEBIG coupon code the price goes down to $1,061.65

I am not certain, but I think I may have the code you speak of. If it's the right code then the final price comes to $1,029.80!

When I click on checkout I am asked for my user name and password which it refuses to recognize unless I go through the customer page. Am I doing something wrong?

Sometimes, you could use another ecoupon, not sure if anything is available now.

Any one knows how to order this laptop with 8GB of RAM and a Bluray drive. According to previous news report, this laptop would be offered with these options, however, the lenovo web site doesn't really let you customize it, except for adding accessories, etc..

Hey, you are better off buying this same laptop at NewEgg than Lenovo. It is not only cheaper for $999, but you also get a larger hard drive of 500GB.

Personally, I'm so close to buying this laptop but am waiting for some reviews before I pull the trigger. I have also been watching the price of this laptop at NewEgg and was surprised when it went down over the Thanksgiving weekend since it barely came out.

If any of you do buy this laptop, I sure would like to read your impressions of the Y550P. I also would like to know what Lenovo laptop owners think of their laptops. Indeed, if you had to buy another Lenovo laptop again, would you do it?

    Thanks!

Yeah, it's pretty dumb for Lenovo's website not allow you to add these options. I would prefer a Bluray drive myself but it doesn't allow you to do this.

The upgraded model on Lenovo's website offers the cheapest i7 upgrade I've seen to date.

    add
    Intel® Core™ i7-820QM Processor ( 3.06GHz 1333MHz 8MB )
    plus 320-->500GB HDD
    for $150

Still, I think the base i7 will be more than enough for most, but having some price competition on the 820 i7 will be nice.

If a backlit keyboard can be installed it probably will void the warranty.

I remember in one of the Asus threads concerning the UL80VT someone posted instructions on how to add a backlit keyboard to the UL80VT. There is also a youtube video that provides instructions. Of course, that is an entirely different computer. I hope someone can post some insights here on this topic including whether or not installing a backlit keyboard voids the warranty.

I'm curious how the Y550p cooling system handles the i7 when its under load and if it suffers from any throttling problems that Dell Studio XPS16 owners are dealing with when on AC power. According to the Lenovo datasheet, the Y550p ships with a 90watt adapter like the Dell's. Also, they claim 3.5 hours of battery life with the 6 cell. Right. The GT240 does benefit from having a lower TDP than ATI's HD4650/70, which may pay dividends in the heat/power consumption area.

Still not keen on Lenovo not offering higher resolution screens on their top of the line ideapads.

It's also 1100 on Newegg now, but that's still a good deal for an i7, GT240 system with 500 gigs of drive.

Well could you show us pics of their fans/heatsinks?
And also of the CPU/GPU temps? Thanks :)
