Unless you plan to run your CPU at 100% all the time I doubt it makes a huge difference.

True, I doubt most users have the need for a quad core CPU. Usually, when I see my dual-core P8700 at 100% usage, it means a rogue process is going wrong and using up all my CPU cycles

Good to see that Lenovo is keeping up with the latest trends though, what with HP and Dell already having launched their Core i7-equipped lappies.

From their introduction, I've been impressed by most of the IdeaPad models. I seriously considered buying a Y530 last year. The deal-breaker for me was the lack of high-res display options. :( Even on the highest-spec 15.4" model, it only had a 1280x800 display...

Now they're introducing this very powerful configuration with only a 15.6" 1366x768 display. That's unacceptable for a system priced at $1399!

It's nice seeing them keeping up with the trend though.

Yeah, I want the new Core I7 laptops but they're supposed battery hogs (45 Watt) and the Westmere 32nm I7's are supposed to be out prob around Dec which run cooler (30 watt). Wait or no.... dammit,

TDP doesn't equal power consumption... the Clarksfield i7s are very power efficient compared to the C2D/C2Qs. The Arrandale i5/i7s will be out in Q1 2010 (most likely you won't get a laptop in your hands with them until late Feb-early Mar).

The performance run I've seen so far pretty much blow C2D away.

Perhaps in the benchmarks, but doing office and internet, it'll be no faster.

this just in: i7 doesn't mean it's a quad core processor. the naming scheme is very confusin. rule of thumb: if the second part is > 700, it's a quad core cpu, otherwise it's a dual core cpu. i think they it's more likely they'll put something like a core i7 620m in such system, because the quad cores have a tdp of 45w and more.

All i7s (Clarksfield) are currently quad cores. The dual core i5/i7s (Arrandale) won't be released for a few months (Q1 2010).
