Lenovo Y580 - Atlas SSD + Win7 Pro clean install, everything works, how do I know if it's running 'optimally'?

    Ok, the system:

    IdeaPad Y580
    i7-3610QM
    nVidia GTX 660M 2GB
    8GB 800MHz PC3-12800 DDR3
Mushkin Atlas 240GB SSD (Win7Pro clean install)
    Seagate 1TB 5400 RPM

I think it's running properly, although this is such an upgrade over my i3 ThinkPad, I'm not sure if it is running optimally. What I notice is that I sometimes get some disk thrashing, and I also have very inconsistent USB transfer speeds. I'm especially wondering if perhaps I need to upgrade my USB 3.0 driver. I am presently transferring on USB 3.0 using a pair of USB 3.0 external drives and I can't top 50 MB/s, yet sometimes I will get transfer speeds of upwards of 100 MB/s. Both drives are listed in HWiNFO64 4.04-1730 as being "USB 3.0 SuperSpeed". I also sometimes have issues getting all 3 USB 3.0 ports to recognize external hard drives in all 3 ports. it's like it'll choose 2 of them to recognize, but the front USB port on the left side doesn't always seem to get recognized if the other 2 USB 3.0 ports have externals plugged in.

What are some good performance benchmarks overall that I can use to test overall performance of everything? Also, how can I tell if I have a good, updated driver for all my peripherals? Overall, I'm incredibly happy with this machine. I use HandBrake and makeMKV to rip and transcode my BluRay collection and I'm able to still surf the internet and do homework without so much as a hiccup. But I'd like to make sure I have all my pieces/parts in tip top shape. Any help greatly appreciated. :)

the drive speeds all depends on the drives your using. i constantly get about 120 - 100 mbps while transfering through USB 3 drives... but thats only on my good HDD.. my other only gives me about 80. plus it depends on the file sizes and many other variables..

do you know of any useful tools I can use to see that everything is functioning at the speed it should? I'd just like to know that my driver performance isn't limiting my system

like i said... it all depends on the drive... as long as your over like 30mbps .. your using usb 3.0 .. for example try plugging in a drive and copying an iso...once in the usb 2.0 port.. then usb 3.0 .. u'll see a huge difference :p
