    Hi everyone,

I just bought this Y580 with a 768p screen... and I must say I wish I shelled out a bit more for a 1080p screen! That's a bit late now...

However, I am looking into possibly replacing the screen with a 1080p one. The problem currently is - is my monitor cable compatible? It is a full 40-pin header, but only 29 pins of that header is populated. See picture below:

The cable can be accessed simply by removing the bottom cover (secured by two screws).

Here comes the real request of this post - if any 1080p Y580 owner finds the goodness in his or her heart to remove the bottom panel (as seen in the pic, and takes a look at the cable header plugged into the area in the green square, I would be eternally grateful. The whole procedure should take less than 1 minute, and would solve my problem (as well as many others who were wondering whether or not they could buy their own favorite FHD screen for the Y580). It should also not void the warranty.

    Thanks in advance!!

According to the official Lenovo y480/y580 hardware maintenance manual, you're gonna need to order the 40 pin cable from them.

Looks like an automated response. I have actually called the North American support, and they pretty much didn't understand what I was asking for. After making it clear that I just want a specific part number, they flat out refused to sell me it.

    Hi min2209,

did you actually succeed in upgrading your display to FHD resolution?

I'm facing the same problem at the moment but for a different Lenovo model.
I want to upgrade to at least HD+ display for my IdeadPad N981.
It has the same low-res display (LP156WH4-TLN1) as the Y580 with a single channel LVDS cable. (QIWY4 LCD Cable For Single (Y580)).
From LG's data sheet I found out that both low (HD+) and high res (FHD) displays of have the same pin configuration (Input Signal Connector: 20455-040E-0x of I-PEX series and Mating Connector: 20453-040T-0x of I-PEX series).

    Data sheets for HD+: http://lcd-screen.com.ua/data/pdf/1202.pdf
    ... and for FHD: http://www.hy-line.de/fileadmin/hy-line/computer/csv/datasheets/LP156WF1-TLB2_CAS_101130.pdf

The last one is your preferred display: Panel, 15.6Full HD, LGD, LGD LP156WF1-TLB2 FHD AG W LED1 NB LCD (Y580) 18200453 (Lenovo Y480/580 Hardware Maintenance Manual)

The only thing I'm not sure about is the appropriate LVDS cable.
I found this one with correct specification: Aliexpress.com : Buy I PEX 20472 20474 40pin 0.4mm pitch 2 channel 6bit LCD LVDS Cable Wiring Harness for N154C6 LP171WU6 15.4 17.1 inch LED panel from Reliable wire harness plug suppliers on Sunvay LCDparts

    Regards and thanks in advance!
