    Hello People,

I just bought a Lenovo Y580 model 209945U and it has 4 USB ports supposedly it has three USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 (correct me if im wrong!) I have tried my HDD on the one on the right side with no luck at all (mouse works fine!) and the when I connect the HDD on the 2.0 it works saying that there are other ports with 3.0 technology for faster transfers...

Do you know what possibly is wrong with the blue right side USB port?? it's 3.0?? it's 2.0?? it doesnt work for powering the HDD?? or whats going on??

I would appreciate any response!! Thanks!!

Mine is 209942U that I bought from Fry's in SoCal. I bought it in the middle of June and it seems that the early models had 2 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0 ports, as indicated by 2 blue USB ports on the left and two black USB ports on the right. This is a first that I heard that a purported blue usb 3.0 port turned out to be usb 2.0

Yeah! thats the weird thing that my hdd is not even detected as a 2.0.. like that specific port doesnt have the ability to power the drive or I dont know... it lights up but never gets detected just my mouse.

    *UPDATE*

I just connected a 2.0 HDD and it worked on thats specific port, 2 USB drives and worked also!... the only one not even detecting is the WD Passport 1 TB 3.0 and the weird thing is that same HDD works on the USB 2.0.... really really weird!!

Does your WD Passport 1 TB drive work in the USB 3.0 ports located on the left side?

    Hi;

So far all my usb work. I have 3 USB 3.0 and 1 USB 2.0. I think for those who bought their laptop through Lenovo website (like i did) will have 3 USB 3.0 and 1 USB 2.0. If you buy it from any other place you'll get 2 and 2. Maybe I'm wrong.

After playing a lot with the ports suddenly the HDD was detected on the right side blue usb port... now I just have to test the speed of the port...

    Hi everyone...

Even though all my usb ports work properly, I'm having trouble with the safely remove option. Every time I press the icon in the taskbar to remove the device nothing shows up. When I use a pendrive I can always go to windows explorer, right-click on the device and select eject, but that's not an option when I plug my external hard drive. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance :)

The USB 3.0 port on the right side does not recognised my WD Passport 1 TB. The rest of the 3 ports does.
Have anyone else have the same problem.

Any ideas how to solve this. Thanks

Edit: Although initially after a reboot, the WD passport is not recognised. After a while it does get recognised.

Go to Device Manager-->Disk Drives-->WD XXX External USB Device-->Properties--->Policies-->Quick Removal (default)

I've never noticed any performance issues when Quick Removal is selected.

Thanks for the reply, but I solved my problem a while ago :p. I had the Bluetooth support service stopped (i don't use Bluetooth) ... For some reason I need to enable it so I can safely disconnect the usb drives.
