Since I bought this Laptop I havent been able to connect to my 5Ghz Wireless connection of my dual band Cisco Router, im starting to wonder if this newest laptop will just connect to 2.4Ghz netoworks while my 4 years old laptop could connect to both.

    Anyone know whats up??..

    I believe the laptop has the Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2200

Consumer machine tend not to ship with dual band adapter. Probably can switch it, check the owner lounge.

I thought the Bluetooth feature was integrated within the wireless card but according to that link the 2200 doesn't support Bluetooth? The 2230 does however.

According to the official Lenovo website, all of the models currently being sold include Bluetooth:

    IdeaPad Y580 15.6" Laptop | Shop | Lenovo | (US)

Whether it be from the wireless card itself or from a separately-installed Bluetooth chip, I don't think any major manufacturer nowadays would exclude Bluetooth on their flagship devices just for the sake of saving a bit of money.

Oh, and I just checked the Intel site for the Wireless-N 2200. It says at the very top, in big bold letters: "Multi-stream, single-band Wi-Fi plus Bluetooth* 4.0"

Must be a separate chip because according to this the N 2200 does not have integrated Bluetooth.

I don't see the 2200 mentioned anywhere on the webpage you posted. The closest thing is the 6205, which obviously doesn't have Bluetooth.

Here's the Intel link of the 2200:

    Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2200

    And, here's the 6205:

    Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6205

You probably misread the chart and thought the 6205 was the 2200. The 6205 is a dual-band non-Bluetooth card. The 2200 is a single-band Bluetooth card. The Lenovo Y580 has the 2200; therefore, the Y580 has Bluetooth.

Sorry friend I wasn't misreading and the 2200 does not have blue tooth. You need to click on the "view more" tab just under the table.

Intel lists only three cards with integrated Bluetooth. The 6235, 2230, and 135. Also you will notice BlueTooth is touted as a feature in each one of those while it is not listed as a "feature and benefit" in the 2200.

    6235
    Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6235
    2230
    Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2230
    135
    Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 135

Aren't those cards connected by mPCIe? The 2200 seems like a lower tier one. I remember a 2200 verison back in the day that didn't support N.

If it is connected by mPCIe, can't I just get an Dual Band card like the 6235* and buy another antenna and connect it that way. (I will have to affix/adhere the extra antenna somewhere).

It looks like a really good laptop, minus this wifi problem. My old Gateway from 6 years ago has Dual Band connectivity (with the Intel 4965 A/G/N ). Shouldn't Dual Band be standard by now.. lol

Edit: Upon further inspection it looks like the Intel 6235 and the Intel 2200 seem compatible. Both use mPCIe, support Bluetooth 4.0, and use only two antennas. Only thing now is to see if Lenovo's Y580 BIOS and hardware supports it.

    Any updates on this?

Edit: You would need to modify the bios in order for the Intel 6235 card to work on the laptop.

On the subject of wireless cards...

How are your guys' DL and UL speeds with your Y580? I notice that I get pretty poor WiFi signal (lose two bars) when I'm only 20 ft or so from my router.
