So I posted this problem in the Y580 owner's thread but didn't get any replies. Basically the laptop won't go into sleep mode whenever I close the lid. This issue occurred right from the beginning of owning this laptop. In power management, it is set to sleep whenever I close the lid but it doesn't do that. I have tried to set it to hibernate or shutdown on lid close but that doesn't work either. I've tried installing a fresh copy of Windows 7 but that didn't work so I used the recovery disks to return it back to factory default.

Right now I figure there's a broken/missing sensor or something. Just wanted to ask you folks before I call up Lenovo for a repair/replacement which will probably take weeks if not months. I received it on July 13th. It is the 1080p 500gb 7200rpm version without any sort of customization. Any help or advice would be aprpeciated, thanks.

How do you know it's sensor problem?
If you try to close lid slowly, does screen goes black 1-2cm before completely closed?
There were few times where mine didn't go sleep too. But normally it would. I thought that maybe something prevented it from sleep. I'm not sure how it woks. I mean, does Window prevent waking up when lid is closed and some action occurs? (like mouse clicking)

Yes I've tried closing the lid slowly to see if it the display would turn off but it never does. Not once has the laptop gone into sleep mode on lid close even after leaving it closed for over half an hour.

You must not have read my original post because I said that I've tried changing the power management options. There's a specific section in there for closing the lid; at factory default, its already set to sleep on lid close but obviously doesn't. I've tried changing that setting to hibernate or shut down but still has no effect. That's why I think there's a sensor broken/missing.

Ok, so I think it could be hardware too. BTW You can of course force it to sleep through Menu Start?

Yeah I could do that but seeing how I just bought it, I'd expect everything to work correctly. I can press the power button to make it sleep too. I guess my question is if its worth it to send it off for a repair and go through that hassle. Not sure how good Lenovo's CS is. Thanks.
