So, a couple notes on the hardware...
Display is identified as LGD047A. I can't find it online but it would explain the bad backlight bleed since LG is kind of notorious for that.
Wireless card is a Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4.

Is the display any good besides the bleed?

Did you keep the factory install or reinstall? Did the laptop come with a Win 8 Key?

It's bright (once adaptive brightness is disabled in power options. The vertical viewing angles are ok, the horizontal viewing angles are good.
As to my SSD story. Here is what I found: It comes with a 5mm ssd. The case can hold a 7mm ssd, but for padding on the case. I decided to remove the padding (5 minutes with a fingernail) and use a 7mm 1tb drive. The Dell 7440 mount is a 7mm mount and I decided not to use it.

The display is very good besides the bleed. Text looks great and the colors look good to my untrained eye. Viewing angles are good but I'm coming from a TN display so I might not have the best frame of reference there.

I kept the factory install and intend to do so. It's easy enough to remove whatever you want to, no need to nuke it. They don't provide a Windows 8 key but there are several tools to extract it from your system.

Unfortunately I spoke to tech support last night and they said all they can offer me is to send in my brand new laptop for repair. They told me that I would need to escalate the issue to potentially get a replacement, so I'm going to do so today.

So I got my laptop last week and have been playing around with it.

I noticed the bleed it's not so noticeable but it's there. The battery life isn't the greatest but it gets me through 4 hours of school with 50% left. The black is a serious print magnet but it's easy to clean. The fans are not too noticeable even in a quiet classroom. I haven't done any modifications, like installing a new hard drive but I have debloated it quite a bit. Overall I'm really happy with my purchase!

That puts you at around 8 hours for a full charge. What were you all doing during this time web browsing, just typing?

Mostly Web browsing, downloading power points and typing notes at 70% brightness, with good signal.

So I just got mine, the i7 model. Only had a day with it but so far it's a great machine. Screen is excellent, no bleed issues. The only thing giving me some problems sometimes is the trackpad, ghost touches and generally doesn't feel very responsive and accurate at times. Doesn't look like a hardware problem, probably win8.1 / driver issue.

PS. under load it goes get fairly hot, but ambient temp here now is 80+ and the fan is virtually inaudible.

So I received my replacement yesterday and it has the exact same screen issues. Not just bleed but distortion when I move the laptop/display.

Hi, yep now in this time isn't available this option. But when lenovo release this version Yoga 3, so it will be on 99% version gpu "NVIDIA GeForce 940M (N16S-GT-S)" with 2(or4)gb ddr3. Man from store say me that when will be release so on 100% it will be pared with i7-5500U (but maybe with i5 too).
Some message about this version for example here and on many others sites, but ye in this time on ofic website lenovo isn't this option :/

But in my eyes this version will be exist, because now is in my country available 15inch Asus Transformer Book TP500LB in versions: FullHD+Broadwell i5ORi7 and withORwithout Gf940M, so I mean that lenovo create same variants.

Hi, yes :/ people what want buy new Yoga 3 (as I in 14inch version) with GeForce must still wait. Because Lenovo still not start sell this model.

But I mean that this model with geforce will be on 99.99% because when I see some times back teardown screenshot (on notebookcheck) from 14 inch version without geforce, and when people look on place around fan so here is empty place for descrete gpu and gpu memory.
And ofcourse all see that is place for second fan :) and this second fan isn't onboard in version with only intel hd gpu, so that will be version with dedicate gpu is on 99.99 percent.

only one minus what I see on yoga 3 is, that lenovo still not create place on motherboard for m2 slot for fast ssd :,(

And your question about pen etc. - this I not know but with ThinkPad Yoga 3 14 (not IdeaPad Yoga 3 14) is answer on 100% yes (and if I remember good so with thinkpad version is pen included in box with place in laptop). But if it will be ok with ideapad version yoga 3 I don't know now. Try write on oficial lenovo supp maybe they give an answer.

...maybe tip for people what want convertible as yoga and want dedicate gpu and not need 14inch, and can have 15inch - is here now in stores ASUS Transformer Book Flip TP500LB with broadwell cpu i5/i7, 8gb, nv 940m 2gb, 1tb hdd with 24gb in msata, fullhd (tn?ips? in all stores isnt this wrote - this is maybe only one minus versus yoga if it is only tn)
in my country for example here http://www.czc.cz/asus-transformer-book-flip-tp500lb-dn025h-cerna/168191/produkt

I saw a teardown of the Yoga 3 14 on a website. The SSD has a strange connection to the motherboard. Is the SSD a standard SATA connection that plugs into an adapter that has the flat cable connection to the motherboard?

    Thanks, Jim

Is it standart sata, not msata not m.2 :/

This is for me minus because I thought that it would keep M.2 connector on motherboard as is in version "Yoga 3 Pro", but this is not, it is a pity.

So it is standart sata but in Yoga 3 is only 5mm hdd/ssd, so if someone want change/buy new bigger hdd/ssd so must buy lower profile disk with only 5mm.

Yeah, I understand that the SSD is standard SATA. But, the tear down I saw had an unusual flat ribbon cable that connected the SSD to the motherboard. Other PCs I have seen just had the SSD plug directly into a slot on the motherboard.

Someone reported that he installed a 7 mm SSD by scraping some padding off of the cover.

    Best regards, Jim

Yep I know what you mean. But it's normal sata ssd (5mm size, 6gbs) and connect between hdd and motherboard is only lenovo proprietary cable or how it say. Lenovo only used cabel for connect hdd into motherboard. It's normal this have many more laptops.

And about size, hdd what is included in laptop from fabric is on 100% 5mm size, but if you can add 7mm (is here place for +2mm) I not know I haven't Yoga 3 in my hand into this time.

I have additional feedback 2 months into ownership (and none good). The fan runs constantly, even when I am browsing the web/no video. The touch screen is erratic, where it will pick up phantom touches on certain spots. The hard drive replacement discussed is as simple as buying a 7mm sata drive and removing the padding to make space (assuming you know how to mirror a drive or reinstall windows). I'm going to send the computer in for repair as I suspect most of these problems are warranty issues. My plan is to get a replacement computer first (Zenbook 303LN) and most likely sell this computer once it works well.

Unless you want or need discrete graphics, I would pass on the LN and go for the LA. The 3200 x 1800 resolution screen has notorious green yellow color issues that have been only partially fixed and with a side effect of killing battery life. And many people have problems with getting readable size text.

    Good luck, Jim

Hello, I just wanted to add that this laptop only has one RAM slot, in case anyone wanted to have this information at the hand.

I tried to put my second 4gb ram stick and there was no space for 2 Slots jaja... i have just ordered a new 8gb ram stick...

btw: the laptop works great for my college and design activity !

It's available now on the U.S. website.
Would love to hear any input on owners that have this model with the 940M, heat, temps, fan noise when gaming and overall impressions.
I realize this is not a top tier GPU but if it can game at 720p at 30 FPS ( which it should be able to for most games) also would be great to see if there is any throttling due to heat under load or gaming.
    Thanks

does anyone else have any new impressions regarding this laptop after having used it for a few months? I'm really into the whole convertible with discrete graphics, but if this one isn't a good laptop I don't want to waste my money on it, although I'm not sure when another laptop like this one will be available

It has a mediocre screen, ok keyboard and a good feeling soft touch. The 5th generation core processors make more fan noise than the older ones. I hated the location of the power button as I would hit it in tablet mode. Its build quality lags the Dell Inspiron 13 7000 (which surprised me) and HP Envy (two other convertibles, one more expensive, one less) and the in-house Thinkpad 450t and X1 (two other thin-light 14" computers). That being said, at the right price, it's a decent mid-level pc.

I don't think that will happen.. You have the new Yoga 900, and i think it is the only one + the Yoga 500 that will get it.. But i'm not sure.

There's also the 700 model. Though it's not official if it's gonna be in European market. Too bad, I'd like to have the Lenovo laptop with skylake, but this really isn't promising.

    Hi everybody!
I have just bought Yoga 14, and unfortunately my screen seems to have a problem
Once some "bubbles" start appearing on the screen (like I am touching the screen by myself) and the mouse moved to the left corner. It is impossible to continue use the computer as it was opening the programs by itself etc. I read thought some forums about this problem and I cant find aby solution.
Does anybody have the same problem and how did you solve it?
