Matt Kohut of Lenovblogs.com just posted his take on solid state drives and its future in Lenovo PC's. He compares the technology with traditional hard drives. Kohut believes "SSDs will take the notebook world by storm."

SSDs are definitely the future. They're faster with better batter life and no moving parts which is always a concern on a notebook.

Yes I also believe that, but I also think that you should not expect to see that on a Lenovo in the near future. Lenovo Thinkpads are more oriented to the business user, so all those new technologies are hard to be adapted and tested by the enterprise...

you should definately expect to see lenovo roll these out...just as they did with other new technologies (ala turbo memory)

The jump in performance is pretty huge - couple that with the extended security of not worrying whether your HD will start clicking...

I can't wait for SSDs to replace spinning drives. I'd consider adding one at some point if they weren't so expensive. Guess I just have to wait.

I can't even consider less than 100GB of storage today, and happiness is more like 200GB. I'm quite excited about the coming 320GB drives.

So I don't think a SSD-only system is in my future for a few years.

That's what file servers are for. I'd trade space for speed and ruggedness any day.

I see it coming sooner than later, that blog ridiculed turbo memory a few months before it showed up in the T61. If they're into the promise of SSD tech, then I'm sure we'll see something soon.

A hybrid drive might be a good idea. Say 30GB for the OS and Apps slapped onto 160GB drive for storage. You don't need the speed for storage.

Definitely, i agree. But i think that an hybrid HD will delay the doubling race...

When price of an 60-80GB ssd reaches $150, i'll make the switch.

I'd rather not have the two combined in one drive, thanks. Flash is expensive, and hard drives are rather flaky.
