Hi guys,
Lenovo posted first teaser of upcoming products. Anyone knows what it might be?
![]()
Anyway what do you expect to see at CES?
ThinkPads are mostly out, but I would guess:
ThinkPad X240 with Full HD
Haswell ThinkPad Helix
Haswell X1 Carbon
-
Thinkpad X3 and Ideapad Y600 are the ones i'm looking forward to.
I assume that picture is the X3. Thin bezel allows for a 14 inch screen in a 13 inch chassis. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
X260 tablet that is MBA thin, has ULV i5/i7, 256-512 GB mSATA SSD only, 8-16 GB RAM, QHD+ 3k HD screen, HD6xxx iGPU, decent battery option with slice.
-
This picture is 100% the new X1 Carbon with WQHD Display and Haswell.
The things I expect to see in the "Think"-department:
- New X1 Carbon (100 % sure)
- ThinkPad 8 (8" version of the TPT 2 with Bay-Trail; very sure)
Not impossible, but not very likely:
- New TPT 3 with Bay-Trail
- New Haswell Helix
Completely unlikely: Broadwell ThinkPads -
hopefully no more junk tp's
-
It seems Lenovo just announced some products on the "Lenovo" side of the game: Lenovo takes a swing at the MacBook Pro Retina, introduces the Ultra HD 4K Y50 | News | TechRadar
Most significantly maybe the Lenovo Y50 (no more "IdeaPad" name?) with a 4K (3840x2160) screen. -
I'm expecting Lenovo to ditch the Thinkpad name too, a few years from now
-
that's the new Carbon. the Lenovo branding on the display is very ugly and so are the capacitive top row keys. a very awkward and old looking style overall.
-
All of the above with the conventional 7-row keyboard and trackpoint with physical buttons, I presume...

Where can I post my credit card info?
I agree with the OP though. We might get some new helix or yoga or some other carbonultraair lifestyle thing. But with the 40ies X/T/W out, and their launch and design somewhat botched we shouldn't hold our breath for anything interesting. -
Behold.. next gen of ThinkPads is here:

and I thought the keyboard couldn't be destroyed more... -
This is a disaster. And this is coming from someone who likes Tx30 layout. -
This new layout was discussed here since some weeks.
However, I wouldn´t call this a "disaster" . There are two points that irritate me a bit and which I would like to try out:
- The smaller backspace key
- The virtual F-key row - how easy will it to use the touch-buttons
Every other change doesn´t really bother me. I welcome the lack of an dedicated CapsLock key, as this is a key I often accidentally hit, and I like that the Esc, Delete and Home/End keys are bigger than before. Also FN is now gone from the lower corner, and now in the upper corner, which means Strg, the Windows key and the left Alt key are bigger now and like on a standard PC keyboard.
However, this layout will be exclusive for the X1 Carbon for some time I think. I don´t think the Broadwell models later this year wil sport the new layout, they should be just a refresh of the current models with newer components. -
Urgh, I think I`ll re-order the t440s
thanks for the pic.
-
i still don't understand why they keep changing the keyboard when there were very few complaints about the older style, i don't think i can expect to be buying a new gen thinkpad, sigh, was going to pass on the ones they just released and wait for broadwell, but now it looks like game over for the TP, R.I.P.
-
I think, they want to get rid of ThinkPad legacy from IBM completely and make their own. Unfortunately current Lenovo team doesn't have enough good engineers. They took most of the best things, that made ThinkPads one of the best machines on the market and replaced them by some craziness like this touch key row...
I would love to buy new ThinkPad, but this isn't for "people who do" anymore... -
The fact that they are soon dropping the Ideapad branding does nothing but cement what you said, i can see the laptops eventually be called Lenovo W560 or such in the future....
Put your tin foil caps on, boys (and girls).
There is always Dell and HP. Can't say that without cringing. -
No. The IdeaPad name is being dropped because it never had really much brand recognition. Mostly the people just reffered to IdeaPads as "Lenovos" before. Until 2012, Lenovo tried to establish the Idea-brand, but it failed.
Also, the company was internal split in two parts, into one Think business unit and one Lenovo business unit. The Think name will continue to exist, Lenovo will be used for lower models and replace the Idea-branding. It is simpler to have your Laptops just called "Lenovo Yxx" or "Lenovo Zxx" than "Lenovo IdeaPad Yxx" or "Lenovo IdeaPad Zxx". This is however not the case with ThinkPads, as the brand name is much more recognizable than even the name "Lenovo" itself. -
yeah it is a recognized name and now it is getting trashed and ruined , you say they are separate but the similarities in practice of TP and IP are becoming very evident now, but i forget you are on lenovo's payroll, you should really consider taking the IBM part out of your avatar, you don't know what an IBM TP is if you consider what they are producing today to be TP's.
-
I have not received any money from Lenovo, so I think I can´t be on their payroll. But yeah, nice way to debate, if you have nothing to say, attack your opponent personally with crude allegations.....I forgot some people here have no respect for different people and their opinions.
Why should I? I like all ThinkPads and also have an IBM ThinkPad here, and I like IBM.Jerome3773 likes this. -
it was sarcasm, we all know it's your dream profession though, i don't have a problem with opinions, just don't spew our nonsense that can't be supported

It is out officially: Lenovo Newsroom | New ThinkPad X1 Carbon, Lightest 14 inch Ultrabook in the World
Looks very nice, just the keyboard is strange. However now it can have Intel Iris, while T440s/T440p/T540p cannot.. strange :/ -
Oh hell, are they going to call it the "NEW X1 Carbon"?
like the "New iPad (3)" which confused everyone until they all got pissed when the iPad 4 came our 6 months later? -
No FullHD screen option is pretty disappointing - screen scaling on Windows can look pretty dodgy, I'd rather have 1080p and be able to utilize Windows at 100% scaling.
-
Shoulda called it the X2 Carbon at least
-
X1.5 because it only has half a keyboard? (still am most likely going to buy the X1 Carbon, seems like a sexy machine - but I would have preferred FullHD instead of QHD and a regular row of keys)
-
Copying Apple strategy 1:1 (even with mistakes
)
-
Have you seen any 14" 1080p screens? I think those are rare/nonexistent at this point, whereas 1080p 13" and 15" displays are common. There are, however, already 14" QHD displays, which is why I think Lenovo went with that resolution.
Not really sure what the point of a capacitive top row is. It's not as if additional functionality is being added, since the F-row already has those functions when combined with the Fn key... -
Everyone is copying Apple, except Apple isn't doing that well. Ever since Jobs passed away i felt they are lacking something. Google on the other hand... taking the market by storm with Linux-friendly chromebooks
-
lol i don't think that is their intention, but the chromebook becomes very nice once you put linux on it.. i mean 250 dollars for a ultra-portable linux netbook with good battery life, i really considered it for just taking notes in class.
-
What iPad 4? Do you mean the New iPad Retina, or the iPad Air?
-
And with the new X1 Carbon you'll be accidentally hitting the End key now...
-
Very likely not. As you can notice, the Ome and End keys are seperated with a small gap. I often misstype CapsLock if I want to press Shift, I can now feel the difference between the Shift key and the two keys (Home and End) because of this gap. You can see this gap here on this picture: Gallery: Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon hands-on photos | The Verge
-
For me, it's not worth it, especially when you can get a superior T440s (with docking port) for less.
-
Well, I already have my T440s, so I won´t throw my money on Lenovo now for a new X1 Carbon.
But for people who want a 2k screen, the T440s is no alternative.
It appears the X1 Carbon has a OneLink-port, which is a sort-of docking port.Jerome3773 likes this. -
T440s is 14" 1080p??
-
Looking at the specs of this thing, I have to kind of ask what's the point? 3.4lbs and 0.75" vs. the T440s at 3.5lbs and 0.8" which gets you the option of a great FHD screen and 50% more battery life for the trivial extra bulk. I would have expected this to be closer to 3lbs if not under.
-
What part of "satellite-grade carbon fiber" you didn't get?
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
That and X1/X1C is not a real ThinkPad.
/whoosh -
Yeah, Apple's coming to the end of the Steve Jobs product pipeline so it'll be interesting to see how they innovate now. And their PC sales growth continues to be pretty lackluster, although I saw a couple of photos of tech "journalists" filing stories at CES and every single one of them was using a Macbook Air
One thing apparently no-one can challenge Apple on, not even Google or Sony (and certainly not Lenovo), is the "coolness" factor (though I am not someone who thinks Apple products are particularly cool anymore now they're become so ubiquitous with a certain demographic). -
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
And on that note has anyone heard anything about the FHD x240 yet? -
Its new ultratablet with dual digitizers and equipped with micro drones so you can takes notes in any position.
-
It's the exact same for me: After now seeing the final new X1 laptop and its pricing, I think the T440s is looking like the better, more versatile option that is only a bit more heavy (300g difference are pretty miniscule). I don't care about thinness all that much, and with the cheap option of getting 12 GB of RAM as well as a big SSD with the T440s it clearly seems the way to go.
Getting a full HD screen instead of QHD or HD+ with the new X1 is also important, because I still think display scaling on Windows is a very subpar experience. -
Don't forget that it's also made from satellite-grade carbon fiber so it can go into orbit

8" Thinkpad tablet looks very interesting. 1920x1200 display, Bay Trail Quad Core processor, a microUSB 3.0 port, LTE connectivity.
added: no stylus. very disappointing.
