After 6 delays, my X1 carbon order finally arrived. Plug in the power, press the power button and the power button and Wifi light up. However, there is nothing on the screen.
Is this a ThinkPad? From T42 till X220, I am a happy customer. But shipping a defective X1 carbon to a customer is just too much. This tells me their brand is going down.
To be honest, I don't see how hard it is to check if the machine is functional before shipping it out. Or they want an angry customer?
Now I am waiting on the phone for 1.5 hours (still counting) ... to get a refund ... not sure why a customer should be waiting for that long. So while waiting, I've decided to register to all notebook forum and share my experience with the globe.

I'm sure it's a one off, since there's such high demand for the X1 carbon there's always going to be one that does not work.
No manufacture can guarantee that their products won't break down or arrive dead. ThinkPad or not.
It seams both of you just had bad luck. -
yeah, consider myself bad luck. it's been 3 hour and I am still waiting on the phone. It feels like they are the customer and I want to do business with them so desperately.
-
This is hilarious. I'm still on the phone with Lenovo trying to initiate a refund
-
First you should not be on hold for 3 hours, you should hang up and try again just in case it's a bug in their queuing system.
Make sure it's the sales line you're contacting and not technical support.
They should give you a refund no questions asked but I'm guessing the sales line has computer issues at the moment.
I just want to ask what country you bought your laptop in. -
I bought mine in the US
-
I bought mine in US. If I hang up and call again, wouldn't it put me at the end of the queue? I have to get this done today, simply because I won't be around next week. This is quite an experience.
-
Unfortunately, I cannot help you much there since I live within the confines of the EU with consumer laws that protect you.
Such as the Distance Selling Directive.
No Idea what the US equivalent is or if they have such laws in the first place.
Technically it would put you at the end of the queue, but sometimes there's a glitch within the system which means that you won't ever speak to an actual person. And since it's not a toll free number you're hurting your phone bill quite badly.
You should try tomorrow morning i.e as soon as they open, then queuing should not be a problem. [9am EST apparently] -
I give up. I will try again tomorrow. After this experience I will not buy a lenovo again

I've been in the hold queue for almost an hour now...
-
has anybody been able to get through??? -
After 3 1/2 hours on hold, I got through. The rep said I needed a case # in order to process the return and avoid a restocking fee. He said the support rep could transfer me directly back (liar). So he transferred me over and after another 30 minutes on hold a support rep answered. The support rep set up the case # and said he'd transfer me back, I confirmed that he could do it directly to avoid the wait and he said yes. About 15 minutes later on hold the support rep comes back on and says "I guess they're busy today" and is on old with them and I hear that same damn on hold music in the background that I just spent 3 1/2 hours listening to!! Apparently the Support Rep DOES NOT have the ability to bypass the general hold queue, but the support rep said he'd stay on the line so he could explain the situation first.

I was able to get through after 4 hours. Basically similar to Kevroc, I have the tech to create the case number, then he sent me back to post sale and the post sale rep gave me a link to fill up the RMA request. I was like ... can't you just give me the RMA link at the beginning of the wait? And that link is just asking me for the reason of return, they will have to evaluate. This is one sick joke.
First the tech didn't check for anything, I doubt if there is anything he can check since the machine just simply won't turn on. Secondly, the post sale rep told me there were no wait time on the phone for this morning ...
I have to agree that music is still playing in the back of my head after listening to it for 4 hours and every 30 sec, it's telling me someone will be with me shortly ...
Lenovo continue to impress me with their X1 Carbon
