I am looking for a 17 inch HD laptop that is powerful and beautiful. Envy 17 with SB is one great option. But I want to explore more. Alienware too is good. Does IBM offer something similar to Envy 17?
3-D is not a priority but it should have
1) Min 17.3 inch screen
2) 1920 X 1080 resolution
3) Core i7 SB with HD 6850 or something similar
4) It should be beautiful like Envy 17, not UGLY like ASUS G73

The only 17 inch they used to offer was the W701, which was beastly in size, and just as expensive. Nice machine though.
Also, its now Lenovo, IBM no longer makes the machines. If your looking at beauty, I wouldn't look toward Lenovo since they typically have very conservative designs. -
Sorry, Lenovo does not offer 17" gaming laptop.

I'm not a mac-man myself, but apple offers a 17" Macbook Pro with Sandy Bridge and a discrete radeon gpu. It's probably far more expensive than the competition though, and has poorer cooling.

Uncles's like me who is in my early 40's will prefer the look of Lenovo. Youngsters will call them ugly and boring and seriously needs a facelift after so many years with that monotonous design. My other reason for going with Lenovo is since it is not eye catchy then the chance of being stolen is less
I have used Thinkpad, Asus, Acer, Sony Vaio , Dell and so far my preference is still the Thinkpad. -
Not all youngster think Thinkpad are ugly, this youngest half your age think they one of the best looking laptop out in the market, especially the x301.

I don't know, IBM consider themself more highly rated compared to HP, so why do they have such a conservative approach while designing laptops?

For me, the primary thing that makes 8740W desirable is its DreamColor screen.I salute HP for its development of this screen. Lenovo probably does not have the expertise or resources to develop such a screen. But this screen should find its best home in W700(W701).

It is not about being conservative, it is about a different kind of aesthetics, different but equally authentic. Armani (minimalist, and frequently austere) has a very different approach to fashion than Versace (outwardly expressive), but they are both authentic to their own aesthetics. -
Also with the Dell and Hp laptop, they charge their design every couple of years, which to me lose their heritage of design. Like well-engineer cars, their lastest car have a lot of the trait from twenty, thirty years ago. When some design are deem great, there is no need to change that classic design.
