Do people know much about Lenovo customer support? Is it very good?

It's really good, at least to me. I never had big issues with my Thinkpads (starting from A21). But minor issues such as not-functioning-well DVDrom were handled quickly (within a day), and the replacement part arrived within two days.

Hit or miss. I've called for support a total of 5 times and all experiences were slightly different. In general, Lenovo is one of the top companies when it comes Customer Service.

Hit or miss, as has been mentioned.
Ive had bad and Ive had good experience, and in my case its only one service center in whole country and the same people that Ive dealt with.
So it has more to do with what Lenovo has authorized IBM to cover under warranty and how to deal with warranty claims.

I have used Dell, Alienware, HP, Apple, and Lenovo.

Lenovo has the best support by far. The technicians are always knowledgeable and are almots always really friendly.

I had an issue with my machine and my ThinkPad was shipped to Lenovo, fixed, and recieved all within three days.

    A+ in my opinion.

In the US, I'd have to say that my experience with Lenovo's support has been excellent.

In the UK... not so much. I'd much rather suck a power cord than have a repeat of the conversations I had trying to get my X61s fixed.

I've yet to own any Lenovo product and so cannot comment about tech support but have had some recent experience in dealing with sales.

A first call connected with a confusingly abrupt rep and a follow-up with a more agreeable one with whom I have maintained contact via email to seek further feature information regarding the X220.

In-country (as you might expect sales to be) and responsive, he seems even less knowledgeable about feature specs than I, and my familiarity is scant.

So thus far, no better or worse than past dealings with Dell.

It really depends on the country, since Lenovo relies a lot on IBM service for warranty and parts support service. In USA, IBM has an established network base with excellent technicians/knowledgeable service representatives. So the quality of services in North America is usually very good.

If you go to some EMEA countries where the IT support infrastructure are not good, then the quality of services may also suffer.

I also have a thinkpad, it's been nothing but misses for me. Customer service was rude, I had to send in my laptop 5 times for repair because they fixed one thing, but broke another. They damage the LCD, then tried to get me to pay for the repair until I complained. Finally when they repaired everything, I disassembled my thinkpad (because I'm now out of warranty) and now realize it's missing some screws.

Good laptop, horrible service. Definitely going to stay away from lenovo until they get their act together. I live in the USA btw.

T400. It was a while ago so I'm not sure, but I pretty much complained to everyone over there, and they all told me the same thing, that I just had to deal with sending it to their depot for repair over and over and over.

That's precisely why I always opt for the onsite warranty.

Funny that my Alienware's standard warranty already includes onsite repairs.

So does my R400. I had to buy the onsite warranty for my x201 though, but that was because of the model I chose. There were other models that included the onsite warranty.

Certain models will include onsite, but buying from Lenovo usually you have to shell out more money for on-site. On site is worth it for your main laptop, but if it is a 2nd or 3rd laptop, depot is fine.
