This question is for my fellow Canadians.

I've been considering a T61p purchase lately but keep feeling like I should wait because of the frequency of sales/discounts I see on the Lenovo US site. I know that they're different sites and the same sales/discounts don't apply, but I was wondering if any of you know if Lenovo has a tendency of having sales/discounts during the Canadian holiday season?

The US discounts seem quite significant, so I'm thinking it could be wise to hold off if they do something similar on the Canadian side?

    Thoughts?

    Hi captain,

I am in a similar situation. I would like to buy the X61, but want to wait until the holiday season.

I phoned a rep from Lenovo ca, and although she wasn't 100% sure, she said they are expecting a discount on all laptops soon.

is there any way to actually buy from the US site even though we`re from Canada ? the price of the X series seems to be a lot cheaper at the US site

Not directly. You'll have to have a US shipping address on your CC. And from there how you get the package to you is up to you.

To answer the OP: I wouldn't hold my breadth on Lenovo Canada offering a sale. They might for the holiday season but then there won't be another for a long long time. Lenovo US is entirely the opposite because they have huge competition with Dell/HP/Acer in the US.

When they do have a sale its limited to a small handful of models. The last sale they had was on only 2 models. Contrast that with the US where a sale is a sale on the ENTIRE line.

The Canadian market isn't deemed large enough for them to focus their marketing $$ here and hence why the website is lacking, and offers are lacking as well.

The only consistent offer from lenovo canada are things like discount on accessories ie. free 1gb ram upgrade...not 15%-25% instantly off + 5% applicable coupon that you normally find on the US site.

This is a very strange strategy. The Canadian market is about one-tenth the size of the America one. American advertising spills over into Canada big time. It's also cheaper to advertise in the Canadian market. As Dell has shown in spades, if you follow a savvy discount strategy, you can make big money out of the Canadian market, especially during the Xmas season.

The website is also a form of advertising. The cost of putting up a decent website, with the Lenovo U.S. model available to imitate, is negligible compared to the money to be made out of a market one-tenth the size of the American one.

I can't help thinking there is some serious dysfunction inside Lenovo and/or Lenovo Canada. Whether it's strategic or something else, I have no idea.
