Ordered a Thinkpad T420 yesterday. I checked the status of it and it says estimated ship date May 26th! What the heck why so long?

They always put such long wait times. Expect it to ship in 1-1.5 weeks

A Lenovo rep told me it may take 2 weeks just to build my T420 let alone ship. In the end even with the holidays I got mine in just 11 days from order to my doorstep (probably would've been 9 on normal days), so all hope is not lost. Lenovo generally give you quite a long ship date but its not unusual to see orders sent out before their estimated ship date.

I noticed this myself as well! I had a feeling that it wouldnt take that long. Talk about super conservative delivery time.

Lenovo always puts down 3 weeks for estimated shipping date for a CTO order, but they tend to ship it out in 1.5 weeks

I ordered an E420 on 4/23 and received notice that it shipped today 5/4 -- 11 calendar days after ordering. So the '1.5 weeks' seems to be right on!

    Ah ok. Another question.

I have noticed that Lenovo seems to use a variety of parts in their laptops and it is really a lottery as to whether or not you will get a good set of parts or not. Do all brands do this? I hope my T420 will have good parts haha.

Better to under-promise and over deliver than vice versa.

Also given it is a new model, that isn't completely out of the ordinary. The new XPS models are sometimes quoted 4-6 weeks for delivery..
