Is it me or Lenovo kind of pricey. Don't get me wrong I love the build quality of my x31, but I could get a similar spec computer for almost 50 percent less. Is it the build quality that makes Lenovo twice as expensive, I'm talking same processor, same harddrive, more ram for the non-Lenovo and its really 50 percent more. Maybe that quality is worth extra.

You're going to get better support too, which has value.
-
Want expensive, try buying a Thinkpad brand new 4-5 years ago lol
-
Lenovo is not expensive for what you get.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
The base model of a Dell Latitude CpT in 2000 was some two grand. -
Which lenovo laptops are we talking about and which competitor models are we comparing to?
-
if you an American buyer, Lenovo is not pricey at all. before i bought my x201, i compared the price point for the options i wanted with a comparable ultraportable from HP, and Lenovo was quite a bit cheaper.
you also have to make sure you're comparing apples to apples - the Thinkpad is a business premium line and is going to be priced higher than a budget consumer grade laptop.
-
If you're referring to the Lenovo IdeaPad range, then you're wrong, from what I've seen. Lenovo offers some of the best specs for some of the lowest prices, although there are some areas where I think specific IdeaPads fall short a bit in comparison to some of its competitors.
If you're referring to the Thinkpads, you'll find that they're actually cheaper or about the same compared to the Dell Latitudes, and much cheaper than HP Elitebook equivalents. Comparing them to consumer laptops, yes, they do tend to be a bit more expensive for the same base specs, but you get many other harder-to-quantify benefits: a more durable design, UltraNav, better driver support, etc. When I got my T500, I paid what I estimated to be about $150 more than an "equivalent" consumer laptop, minus the then-rare switchable graphics feature. -
It depends on what country your from. Comparing similar models in Canada from Lenovo (T/W series), Dell (Latitude/Precision) and HP (Elitebooks), Lenovo is the cheapest.
-
^^^ This Canadian concurs. ("Least costly," not "cheapest."
)

I just double checked my numbers, Lenovo pricing is comparable to other notebooks of the same class. I was comparing the t410s, which is kind of a specialized notebook to a consumer grade notebook. My fault on this one.

You get what you pay for.
-
Cheap, reliable, powerful. Choose any two.
I took the last two. I have a ThinkPad. -
i would go with Cheap and reliable, is there a laptop that have these qualities?
-
Lenovo is not expensive at all. With the new 35% coupon, one can pick up a W510 for just over a grand. Compared to some of junk big box stores sell, you can't beat the price.
-
I got an SSD(another black Fri purchase) ready to pop in there when it arrives (^_^). -
I thought this exact thing: Surely my money can get something more with another brand. I went to a local supplier of other brands and did my creak test.
I picked up the other laptop models by the left and right corners (proximal to the user). The laptops groaned and creaked as their chassis tried to stay together.
This is not to say that every non-thinkpad will have this property. Sadly, many non-thinkpad laptops have this property.
Happy shopping. -
