Just got a new r60: 9462-73u. Very happy with it. (especially with the $1100 discount through the lenovo website)
But I've got one problem: it seems that no matter what I do the IE homepage reverts to the lenovo website: I want it to be blank. I've used the internet options panel; I've changed the registry line to the blank page; I've configured anti-spy software to prevent changes.
But whenever the system starts--presto-changeo--back to the lenovo website. I can't think of anything else to do--there must be a hidden control I'm missing that resets my homepage.
Any advice?

Perhaps there is a hidden plug-in somewhere. HiJackThis may help. As for browsers I would suggest something other than Internet Explorer. FireFox and Opera both work well and are free.

Nothing weird shows up with hijackthis.
I searched the registry and came up with:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard
ShellNxt http://www.lenovo.com/us/en/
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
StartPage http://www.lenovo.com/us/en/
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lenovo\Access Connections\Locations\mukluk\AdptList\Adpt00
m_szHomePage http://www.lenovo.com/us/en/
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1855200489-685522952-3976678131-1005\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard
ShellNxt http://www.lenovo.com/us/en/
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1855200489-685522952-3976678131-1005\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
StartPage http://www.lenovo.com/us/en/
The only one I have tried modifying is the second above; I'm not sure what's safe to change and what isn't... any suggestions? Thanks. -
I had this same problem. The ThinkVantage software sets the homepage for Microsoft Internet Explorer so that in the evet any spyware other such malware changes your homepage the ThinkVantage will change it back. But this is confussing if you don't know where to set it.
I'm using an X40 so it may be slightly different on your newer R60 but this might point you in the right direction.
1 open IBM access connections (not sure what's its called now)
C:\Program files\thinkpad\ConnectionUtilities
2 Manage location profiles > select a profile and click edit > Internet Explorer tab> and enter your homepage of choice where its indicated.
hope this helps. -
Brilliant! Thank you.
