I am now a proud owner of a t61p, a gift, and I was told that it was going to take some time to build. I looked it up on the web and found countless horror stories about how orders were delayed for a month or more.
Yet my gift was a custom T61p and from the time the order was put in (i think, or atleast from when I was told I was getting one) to when I received it, was an incredible 7 days, ordered on the 16th to getting it on the 22nd.
Am I just lucky or is this becoming the norm now for custom Lenovos?

That was my experience earlier this month. A little over a week from order to delivery. And with a Penryn to boot.

Shipping delays aren't as prominent as they used to be. I'm sure you can locate that thread of madness several pages back but I believe Lenovo has cleaned up the shipping aspect of their notebook purchases. Thanks goodness.
-
Happy people do not post on the web for the most part. So the vast majority of posts concerning this are bad ones. Besides, all delays were due to supply shortages typically from third parties with which Lenovo had no control.

I got my lenovo in a week exactly. From build date, to ship date.

I just ordered a new Penryn-based t61p on February 20th and it shipped 3 days later. The ETA was originally March 10th.

It seems that after all the mess, Lenovo decided to restrict the configuration on certain series, and that helps to solve the shipping delay woes. For example, now the R series doesn't offer WWAN anymore.

They've really improved in their build/ship process. I got my custom ordered T61 just 7 days after I ordered it. I've definitely been impressed. The free UPS Express shipping sure was nice, too.

I wish I got a T61p as a gift

Usually, it's the new models that have the worst delay. We'll see how Lenovo is doing when the X300 is released. Hopefully, they have worked out their issues, but this has been going on for several years now. It isn't like they haven't had a few opportunities to get it right.

I was wondering the same thing. Not that I was actually planning on buying one though (after just spending almost $1500 on my current T61, I have to wait and replenish my funds for a few years lol).

I ordered my custom T61p last Monday and received it on Friday.

Ordered T61 on 2/22, received order confirmation on 2/22. Received shipment confirmation on 2/23. Received electronic receipt for invoice on 2/24. Clicked on UPS tracking link today and it was scanned in with estimated 4 day delivery from China. Would that be "Express Shipping"?
This will be my 1st ThinkPad. Business app use mostly. Look forward to the experience. -
Just updated that really long thread, since I was pleasantly surprised as well. I ordered late night Friday, 2/21, and got an estimated ship time of 3/11/08 (yikes!). I just received an e-mail (Sunday, 2/24) telling me my CTO T61 has shipped. EDIT: Tracking shows an expected arrival date of 2/29.
This will be my first ThinkPad as well; I look forward to comparing it to the Dell Latitudes I've been used to. -
I'm in the same boat. Moving from a Latitude to a T61p. Looking forward to hearing your first impressions and perspectives.
-
Yeah, I'm looking forward to your comparison between the T61 and your Dells as well. Give your new notebook a few thorough test drives and report back to us.
Put it on its own thread. -
Ordered my T61p today. Estimated ship date on the website shows March 24. That's almost 1 month from today. What did your estimated ship dates show versus when you actually received the laptop?
-
Mine arrived 6 days after ordering.
Lenovo has stepped up their assembly and shipping process
