I seem to remember pretty much every touch screen essentially having a separate screen panel itself and a digitizer overlay over it. It's the same in all phones too. And I kinda doubt the screen panel would be matte, I'm afraid that would make for a very crappy properties of the final assembly.

Lenovo accidentally sent me a touch panel as a replacement for my non-touch. The Touch panel is exactly the same AUO part number with an additional glass layer bonded to the front. The driver board for the digitizer is glued to the back of the AUO panel and the ribbon cable is routed between the two layers. So it's exactly as I said - the standard AUO panel with what I would call a matte finish, and a glossier layer of glass on top of it.

Should give you a pretty good idea of how glossy the T440s touch screen is.

Does anyone think or know if we can order the new Touchpad assembly ourselves? Would be great if there was a new part # that specifically referred to the new assembly. Would hate to order a new part and have them ship me the old version.

I also miss the trackpoint buttons and if I could get rid of the annoying "Click" sounds on the new trackpoint/trackpad component then at least the module would be tolerable.

Feels sad to say that with the ever improving rate of technology and materials, that in many ways we are moving backwards. Sounds weird that I should be happy with something that's tolerable instead of great.

My T440s has a "clicky" trackpad which I'd let to get rid of as well. Given that the list of bezel FRU's from the original FRU list from July 2013 did not change when the list was updated in February 2014, I can only conclude that isn't a new part number. It's possible that there was a revision change to one of the existing bezel FRUs.
