Friends, I have ordered lenovo ideapad y500 non SLI.I will be using it in home for most of time. Since this is my first laptop, I have no idea of charging laptops. Can I leave it charging even after 100%. Will it affect battery? or do I have to disconnect after 100%. Also I can't remove the battery, power cut can happen at anytime here.

Can you tell me which is better for batteries either to disconnect after full charge or keep it connected to power source?

If you are using at home most of the time, it is recommended that once the charge hits 30%-50% you remove the battery to help it last longer. I don't know about how to deal with power outages though so perhaps someone can help with that.

Typically it would be the best to not be constantly charging your battery if not necessary.

modern laptops have a trickle down battery meaning you can leave them plugged in and it will stop charging when full (other companies stops charging and discharge between 90-95%), but with the nature of these batteries the best way is to keep them charged to 50% then stored in a fridge.

personally if you upgrade or change machines every 2-3 years then just keeping it charged and discharging using the battery once a month is the best way to go.

Lenovo has a power management tool installed on the computer, if you use the max battery life setting it always keeps the battery around 60% never over charging it

You can use the laptop on AC all the time, but at least once a month (or a week), do a complete discharging/charging cycle, just to ”refresh” the battery. I have a dell for more than 3 years and its battery is working almost as at the beginning, just because I did use the laptop on the battery from time to time.
