I placed an order on Sunday July 15, 2007 for T61.
The ship date is estimated at August 30, 2007.
I realize that I have a business trip on August 21, 2007 and will need a laptop by that time.
I call Lenovo Sales and cancel my order on Monday July 16, 2007. The sales rep said he canceled the order from the warehouse, and everything is done and okay.
I call today Tuesday July 17, 2007 to check the status of my order......
The sales rep tells me I should be recieving my T61 in the last week of July!!!!
AFTER I CANCELED MY ORDER!!!!!
I was about to buy a Macbook Pro, but I think I'll wait and see what happens.
LENOVO IS COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS

I cancelled one order about 3 times. now it is still there....
-
Wow Lenovo surely seems to be friggin' retarded.
-
When you call, do they have your order status canceled?
-
My order history:
1) Ordered 7/9/07, special at the time was free Intel ABGN card. Found out about Tailormade discount a couple days later and cancelled the order (7/11.) The reps swear up and down that they have cancelled it and even put a note in the order history to this effect, but the online order status still shows that it's in production.
2) 7/11/07: Ordered new T61 to replace the last one, except this time the special was on hard drives (got 160G.) After I saw that the shipping date was 9/13/07, I cancelled it. It actually went away.
3) 7/11/07 : Ordered T61 with 120G HD and fingerprint reader, Atheros ABG card.
So now I'll be getting the first one with ABGN, and the last one with ABG and Fingerprint.
By now I'm sick of the whole idea of even getting a notebook. It seems like you either have to talk to the Geniuses at the local Apple store and pay 40% more for a good machine, or else you roll the dice and blindly order online from your favorite PC vendor and hope for the best. *gulp* -

Your order will be shipped you will have to get a RMA and return it. It will take 2 weeks-1+ months to get your card credited back... I would recommend calling your credit card company and issuing a freeze on that amount so that Lenovo cannot charge your card to begin with. Tell them you cancelled an order but the vendor is not responsive/unable to cancel your order so you do not want them to charge your card. Depending on what card you used to make this order you may/may not be able to do this. In hindsight I wish I had done this as it would have saved a lot of time....Good Luck

I have had trouble canceling an order through Lenovo as well. I have never had so much trouble canceling an order. For some reason Lenovo will not send give you a cancellation number. I don't think they even have cancelation numbers. They can't even cancel orders. All the customer reps can do is "send a note" to somebody to have the order canceled.
I kept checking my order status for 6 days after calling to cancel. It said "in process for 6 days after canceling. On the third day, I was tired of wondering about the order. So I called again...
HERE IS A TIP: When calling to cancel, make sure the Lenovo reps sends you an e-mail stating that your order number was canceled. Actually wait on the phone for the e-mail to arrive in your inbox otherwise they'll tell you they'll send you an e-mail, but they won't. I had them send me an e-mail stating the date that it was canceled and stating they would pay for shipping and not charge a restocking fee if the laptop still arrived. Save that e-mail. You might need it! -

You'll receive the T61 before the end of the month. -
Back in June, I had a T60 order canceled. As soon as I got off the phone, I checked my order status page, which showed that my order was canceled. For some, things get done quickly. For others, unfortunately, things do not. I don't know how things work at Lenovo... but what I do know is that the exceptionality of my ThinkPad outweighs the headaches Lenovo has graced me with.

If you hear my story you are going to freak out....
I ordered mine 5/9 ... after i heard that canceling and reordering is faster i canceled on the 25th and reordered another one like a week later...
around the 28 i get an email that my order was rebooked...
I call them they assure me that they will cancel it (quote - "3 people are working on it")
i check a couple of days later and the order is still valid, i call again... they say don't worry. its canceled.
2 weeks later i get an email that my order has shipped. - i freak out call them and they say don't worry.... (my order didn't state a tracking number so i believed them)
I got another shipping notice... this time i send an email to [email protected]... i get an answer back confirming my order is indeed canceled.
3 days later... i get a laptop. (i didn't want to refuse cause they do state that no matter what don't refuse)
But then i check if i got charged... nope i didn't ... i decided to wait a week, see if they will charge me... nope nothing..
I send the dude that replied back that i have their stinking laptop and they need to pick it up... he sends me a shopping label.
Now talk about hassle.
P.S i got the free battery from this original order - and there's no way i'm shipping it back
Oh and P.P.S ... their web site is down for the past 3 hours.

Wait, so they never actually charged you?! While that does freak me out, it's definitely less hassle than getting charged. BTW, what is that "critical" address?
Last two lenovo orders:
#1. Ordered, CANCELED two days later, shipped!, delivered, and returned in june. Still no credit.
#2. Ordered, checked out at one price, then charged another. Was told I could either let it ship, then submit a "price match", or cancel and rebook at correct price. Chose to play it safe and cancel. And of course it shipped anyways. Did follow through on the "price match" (as if that describes the scenario of taking more money than agreed and confirmed at checkout).
You would think the above two scenarios would be too rare for one person to experience both, but if you read these forums you'll find neither is uncommon. Lenovo even admitted as much on the "glitch" in number two. -
Odd that your ship date was so far out. I ordered this afternoon and my ship date is August 3. I am not saying this isn't true it just worries me to why mine is shipping sooner but was ordered later.
-
Never believe what these stupid (they are just behind the phone to pick your call) reps tell you. They say yes and assure you whatever you request is ok, but finally nothing happens.
I have very unpleasant experience with them. Next time if I request anything, I will ask for email confirmation. -
Called again today.....
When I initially inquired about my order, the rep told my to expect it mid August. I proceeded to tell him I want to / had earlier called to cancel. He then said the request was made to the warehouse to stop the order. I would have to wait 24 hours for a email confirmation from the warehouse. -
Prediction: ships anyways.
Good luck though. I hope it doesn't -

Has anyone successfully cancelled?
-
Of course they have.
In all seriousness if you stick with it you can probably cancel. It's just not uncommon for them to tell you "yes it's canceled, no we don't have cancelation numbers, sure, my name is scott..." and have it ship anyways.
Knowing what I know now, and having already gone through the nightmare of having my funds erroneously tied up for over a month (and counting) because of their mistake, what I would do is call every day and (re)cancel, then insist whoever you speak to email you an assurance that your order is in fact canceled. Which will still be a lie of course, but then you have somethng concrete to forward to your credit card company as basis to block the authorization number (which lenovo secured then released when you first placed the order). Do this before it ships, because once they actually put the charge through, you basically have to wait thirty days before your credit card company will even get involved on a "return" that hasn't been refunded yet.
Cancel, get something in writing, touch base with amex, and keep checking your order status. If it does ship, don't refuse it- call and get an RMA#, and follow their rules.
But if your only concern is getting it before you leave, it will ship way before your estimated ship date. You'll probably have it by end of this month.
