So as part of my ongoing quest to Clean install my lenovo. I downloaded the CPU-Z programs (cheers to Arkit3kt). And I go to the memory section and it says TYPE is DDR2.

Funny thing is that I ordered DDR3. and part of customization of the T500 doesnt even offer DDR2. does this mean lenovo jipped me?

Click over to the SPD tab, and it should be reading it as DDR3 there. That's how it is on my notebook.

I did that as well Slot 1 and 2 of the SPD section say DDR3. I looked at this other post on this forum and a guy had the similar problem but his SPD told him he had DDR3. I on the other hand dont have it telling me DDR3. So does that mean Lenovo gave me DDR2?

I called Lenovo and they said I have DDR3 and they said the programs might not be compatable with VISTA. I still dont believe that for some reason. Is there a way I can check?

Why don't you just take out the RAM and see if it says DDR2 or DDR3?

Take this with a grain of salt, but I do believe someone else posted something similar to this and the conclusion was the CPU-Z cannot read (or pick up) DDR3 RAM yet. So, you probably do have DDR3 RAM even though the program is saying you only have DDR2.

I too believe there has been a thread or two with this same issue, but this was when the new models had jsut been released so there was a lot less known for sure

It's DDR 3 memory. When I switched the keyboard on my W500 I saw the RAM sticker list DDR3. Lenovo's tech support guys should know the truth as well. Here's an idea if you still aren't sure and it will take at most 2 minutes. Go to the Lenovo parts look up page, punch your serial number and model type (get those from your confirm email, Lenovo account, invoice; or just use the auto detect feature). Check out the FRU number for your memory. Take that number and punch it into the Lenovo store to see what it is (should be one of the DDR3's).

    parts lookup: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?template=/partslookup/partsLookup.vm

store: go to Lenovo's homepage. Take the path of Home > Products>Accessories & upgrades>Memory Look for the FRU or just punch for it in search.

i'm not sure why someone else hasn't posted this yet but here goes...

it's physically impossible to install 200-pin DDR2 SODIMMs in a system requiring 204-pin DDR3 SODIMMs.

therefore, the only memory your system can physically have is DDR3 no matter what any piece of software may say.

    relax... you have DDR3. ;)

Yes we've already discussed this. You have ddr3. If you really want to check, then look at the memory itself.

DDR2 and DDR3 have different "check pin" locations. DDR2 won't even fit in the motherboard for the T500... The 'check pin' is the small 'empty' slot in the ram where a piece of the motherboard's ram slow will protrude into. DDR1, DDR2 and DDR3 have different 'check pin' locations.

    Done and done.
