On the Lenovo website, the standard USA warranty indicates: A warranty period of 3 years on parts and 1 year on labor. But on the Lenovo USA shopping site it indicates a warranty period of 1 year. Warranty page 3, first paragraph.
Extracted from the Lenovo USA warranty:
A warranty period of three (3) years on parts and one (1) year on labor means that Lenovo will provide warranty service without charge
for:
a. parts and labor during the first year of the warranty period (or a longer period as required by law); and
b. parts only, on an exchange basis, in the second and third years of the warranty period. Your Service Provider will charge you for
any labor provided in performance of the repair or replacement in the second and third years of the warranty period.
Am I reading the Lenovo USA warranty correctly that Lenovo provides 3 years parts coverage? If Lenovo provides 3 years parts coverage, other than the "opps coverage" that Lenovo sells (Thinkpad protection), what are reasons for purchasing an extended warranty o/t for having a tech come to you to perform the labor (on a non CRU part)?
Since Lenovo will ship a Customer Replaceable Units (CRU's) and it is your responsibility to perform the labor (for 3 years under the basic warranty), I am trying to see what the reasons for purchasing an extended warranty (o/t "opps" Thinkpad protection) would be? Where does depot coverage stop and service at your site coverage start?

I believe Lenovo says that if there is a discrepancy between the website and the warranty stated on your laptop (I'm assuming in the package you got the laptop in), the one on the laptop supersedes. It could be a typo on their part. But, there are some parts which are deemed user-irreplaceable such as the CPU and motherboard and monitor, which will have to be shipped in for.
