Are those close to the same quality build as the Thinkpads?

I know they probably are the same quality, but what is the difference?

Am I mistaken that they are not the same ones available on the Lenovo website?

They are different, and often made by different ODMs for Lenovo.

Keyboards, TrackPoint, accessories, expandability, materials, quality, screens etc. - all is very different between Thinkpads W/T/X + 3 digits and other Lenovo computers.

they are identical if you're asking about a T420 online vs a T420 at a retailer
the configuration will vary, but you can get a retail config also from online

I think OP is talking about IdeaPad/Essential vs ThinkPad. The difference is night and day.

IdeaPads are consumer notebooks, perhaps even multimedia oriented. Essential is their entry level notebooks. Both are mass produced ODM machines. They don't have anything ThinkPad has, ThinkLight, lid latch, roll cage, 7 row keyboard, LCD roll cage, Trackpoint, matte screens. ThinkPads are designed for buisness use, and usually cost more but are much better built.
