Wait until after tuesday. Most companies are switching over right now, so everything probably isnt updated yet.

I just talked to a saleman about this...he said they will begin shipping later this week, however, there will probably still remain a lead time of around 5 days.

Good thing. I'm ordering mine before Vista comes pre-installed.

Will the same notebook (same specs) with Vista cost more than there XP versions did?

They do this everytime (ex: Core 2 Duo, 802.11n wireless adapter, etc). Just give it a week or two and it'll be available. Before it's available on the site, however, it is usually available via phone order.

By the way, it only says "Windows Vista Capable".

Lenovo is offering on their site Vista Home Premium 32 and Vista Business 32. They're charging 49 and 79 dollars, respectively. Will they keep charging for Vista and what does the "32" denote?

That it is the 32 bit version not the 64 bit.

Can it be safe to assume that Lenovo Thinkpads will not have 64bit support? The Core 2 Duos support 64 bit but Lenovo isn't offering Vista 64.

they won't. 64-bit is not better, most drivers won't work, i read an article that reccommended 32-bit, even if you have a 64-bit CPU.

Whos 64-bit drivers don't work??? Lenovo or are you talking in general?

It would be very strange, because Microsoft does not alow to submit x86 only drivers for Vista. But I guess it would be limitation of digital signatures.

    Could you share the source?

I should order quick the T60 I was planning to buy for a couple of month now. I really DON'T want Vista. I think it is better to switch to a new OS after it's been market-tested for a coupel of years already.

Ah it depends. Currently Lenovo isn't offering 64-bit. But I'd say common laptop hardware would be fine. If you say had the Intel wireless card and didn't care about your bluetooth for now, and just wanted your straight up laptop it would be very hard to imagine 64 not having all the drivers out of the box. What 64-bit is going to be bad at for a while is printers and scanners and things like that. People have it hard on the 64-bit version because of the 64-bit version of XP which had very poor driver support. My understanding is the driver model is more unified now. That said, 64-bit isn't probably what most people want for now because of some software things, and the fact that there is no software beyond engineering software that I know of that really puts it to use. That said what I did was I got Windows XP 32-bit and got my free upgrade for Vista-64 bit. That way whatever I couldn't do in Vista I could just boot to XP. For my desktop, that is...

You can still order with XP Home/Pro installed, but I'm not sure when they're going to take that off.

I just ordered the T60 wide screen, it comes with XPPro.

Btw, I also ordered 1Gig of extra memory, but I decided not to pay the extra 50CAD to have it installed. I figured is as easy as for any other laptop. A couple of screws on the bottom, pop the memory in, screw back the cover. Am I right, or is something more complicated than this? Sorry for hijacking the thread and apologies if the question was already answered someplace else.
