So I need some critical advice. I need a portabe computer for class that has good battery life. Won't use it for much more than school work and music. I was set on buying the Sony SZ230 P/B, which is their light and portable computer, and although the size is awesome and they have a lot of great hardware features, the durability of the casing, keyboard, cd drive seemed flimsy and inferior. Also, I heard SOny support sucks so I am swayed not to purchase it. A friend of mine really likes IBM and so i was checking out the Lenovo T60. I hear that they are extremely durable and most people are happy with them. Ive been reading some threads about the screen brightness/quality, but otherwise do people recommend the T60? I want the 14 inch screen, but should I upgrade to the SXGA for better resoluion? Price is not really a concern, so would this be a good computer to go with? Thanks so much for any input

One more question: What is the difference between the T60 and the T60p? Theres a big price difference, and for someone who doesnt don much more than word processing and web surfin, is it worth the upgrade to the T60p? Thanks so much

You get better graphics card with T60p which ch 256mb. With T60 you have choice of integrated Intel card, ATI 64mb or 128mb video card.

Also, T60p starts at 2 GB to 2.33 GB.

T60 should be more than enough for your daily web surfing and word processing.

You should look at some screens to see what you like better. Perhaps you should consider the FAQ and post there.

You were concerned about brightness but asked about increasing the resolution...
Changing the resolution does not affect the brightness... look at the specs of the screen (nits) to see how bright it is. The T60's which have IPS + FlexView are fairly bright and have wonderful quality (incidently FlexView is available only with high resolution and alas only on 15" screens).

The sony screens have a glossy XBrite coating whereas the IBM/Lenovo are matte (flat). I hate it but many ppl prefer the glossy coatings, available from most manufacturers.

Yes the Sony SZ series are thin - perhaps too thin - and as a result not at all durable. They look great tho and the screen is fabulous for movies. I know someone who has one and it's a nightmare. Very unreliable, spends more time in the shop than with him.

The X-series (not the T series) is designed to compete with the SZ. But the X-series screens are average, at best.

Have you considered Fujitsu? You might like their screens and their light portability. And the fujitsu build is generally far superior to the Vaio.
