Wanted to find out if anyone knows how good Lenovo is about canceling an online order. I had placed an order for a Y560p yesterday morning. Last night, though, I found a coupon where I could get an HP dv6t quad with a bigger hard drive and better graphics card for less money. I found out about the HP coupon too late to call Lenovo that evening to cancel, so I rung them first thing this morning. I was told that the order could be canceled, but it would take up to two business days for the process to complete. Incidentally, my system's scheduled ship date is two business days from now (April 6).
Is Lenovo true to its word, or will I be in for some more headaches? I really hope I stopped it in time because I don't want my card to be charged, have to wait for it to be shipped, and then have to call them back to find out if I can just refuse the shipment or if I need to actually take delivery and mail it back.
Any insight from other folks here would be greatly appreciated.

I'm aware of their policy. I was more wondering if anyone has had any problems with Lenovo saying that they would cancel an order but ship it anyway. If that's the case, what are people's experiences with trying to rectify the problem? Would it be better to refuse delivery or accept it and return the unopened box?

I have heard of cases where the system ships after a cancellation. I would make sure to get and save an email confirming cancellation, so you can more easily get out of any restocking fees if that happens and you have to return it.
-
the return policy quote in bold addresses exactly why you don't want to refuse the package without a proper RMA. you're almost guaranteed to pay 15% simply for not following instructions.
call sales and confirm the return. at this point it's all you can do. -
Expect your laptop at your front door step even faster now that you've cancelled!
Lenovo - because our logistics blow.
No, seriously. There most likely WILL be a restocking fee, even on an unopened box. And that's reasonable if it was shipped prior to your cancellation. You can't just order things and try and buy on their tab.
Once you do cancel the order, keep records - screenshots, people you've talked to, and if you're paying with a card block charges if it hasn't posted yet. If they ship it to you AFTER you cancelled and you have documentation that your cancellation date was prior to their ship date (even though they don't really like to keep you in the loop about when they're shipping - it's a surprise game) then you should refuse to pay any re-stocking fee and tell them to go, you know.. do obscene things.
The whole shipped after cancellation thing seems to plague outlet orders more often than NIB/CTO orders. -
I'm wondering if your HP dv6t will still come out cheaper after you pay the 15% restocking fee from Lenovo......
-
Right? Restocking fee's are claimed to be in place to recoup shipping costs and the price drop since the machine isn't new anymore. That's BS. They just take 50 bucks off and throw it in the outlet. It's there to discourage that exact behavior of easily being able to return items for other products. They're hoping you'll just say "aaaaah F it it's too much effort/work/trouble" and you'll stick with whatever it is you've purchased.

I tried to cancel a T410 notebook but the call center was closed. The very next day eastern time when they opened I called and they indeed canceled the order. However, I checked with the on site sales whether or not it was canceled and it had not for one reason or another, so I made another call a few hours later and finally it was confirmed that it was now canceled via email.
Hope this helped a bit..... -

I would be OK with that, but their call center was closed when I wanted to cancel after I placed the order. I called them first thing this morning to cancel. They said it takes two business days to process it and they couldn't send an e-mail to say that the cancellation was being processed.
I'll call my bank to see if I can block the charge, too. I hadn't thought of that.
I did call them again this afternoon, and they still had the cancellation notice "in the system" (or so they say). The order still shows as "in process" on the web site, but as I said above, I'll see if I can block the charge at the bank's end. Wish me luck. -

Success! Just received the cancellation confirmation e-mail. To verify, when I try to check on its status, it says the order number is invalid.
Now to spend my time anxiously awaiting my dv6t.
