Thought this info was interesting:
"At Lenovo, a team of engineers has been working with Microsoft for the past year to improve Vista. And Lenovo loads Vista on machines it sells to customers. For its own use, however, Lenovo still runs Windows XP as its corporate standard. Make of that what you will."
http://www.newsweek.com/id/160064 for the entire article about Vista problems for Microsoft...
-
cause xp doesnt come with the extras thats not needed for business...my guess
-
not to mention that xp can run on a 3-5 year old system. vista requires at least a dual core cpu and 2gb of ram to run efficiently.
-
And because there is a greater percentage of applications developed within the last 5 years that have LESS compatability issues with XP than Vista.
-
uh....Does anyone know of any large corporation running vista??
For any large corporation, the decision to use vista carries with it huge IT related costs and no additional value.
This doesn't mean Vista is not a good choice for a consumer though.
I'm also curious to see if any large corporations will adopt office 2007 anytime soon or if they'll hold onto 2003 as long as possible. -
...and lest we forget that upgrading to Vista isn't FREE and a corporate environment is about maximizing profit, not giving your employees a more user-friendly computing experience (which may , by the way, necessitate an additional expense in the form of training sessions for the corporations less computer-savvy employees).
On a new computer purchase for the vast majority of consumers there is no good reason to go with XP rather than Vista. -
Well, I hate to beat a dead horse, but the industry standard music production software , Digidesign Pro Tools , is not compatible with Vista 64, which happens to be the standard O.S. that I have seen lately at Best Buy on thier better equipped laptops. So whether or not I like Vista 64 is irrelevant to me, I just cant use it.
-
for office 2007 large corporations have adopted it.. the improvements in outlook is a good enough reason to update...
-
I can tell you General Motors still uses Windows XP and a small precentage started to switch to office 2007 (I'm guessing as a test bed) and so far they have stalled. GM does use Lotus notes so outlook isn't used and so far no one has anything positive to say about it. Incompatibility issues with my 07 documents and everyone else 03 version has become a huge problem for the entire engineering department when people don't convert them when saving documents
-
GM's IT guy's aren't really smart then... there is 07 viewers and converter by Microsoft. and/or the engineering dudes weren't smart enough to save the right format.
-
I know that one of the Big Four Accounting firms uses Vista (at least in one office that I asked about it...).
-
lol big four.. you so live in canada...
for those who don't know, big four:
KPMG, Ernst & Young, Pricewaterhouse Coopers and Deloitte -
.......................
you're funny
-
Huh...? Why would I live in Canada. The Big4 are the Big4 internationally...As it says to the left of this I am in Santa Barbara, CA....
-
hater
lol my bad... i don't venture into people's profile seeing where they live and stuff
man you guys are sensitive = = -
XP? I know plenty of companies still using Win2K for their employee desktops. When all you're doing is playing in Excel, using Outlook for email, and writing the occasional Word document. It's kind of hard for a company to justify spending money for more...
-
This article isn't reliable, most big corps don't use the latest Windows versions right away because of the hardware and some software. This was the same when Windows 2000 and XP came out, most of them stuck with NT for quite some time. Look at the US economy for recent years, you think big corps would have the budget to upgrade all their systems to Vista capable?
-
Actually GM uses mostly contractors. The conversions are mostly annoying, not really a huge problem. You also have to think about the average age of engineers (somewhere in the high 40 I believe) so most of them aren't the most computer savvy people. There are plenty of places that have engineers in there 60's and even 70's. and don't always keep up with the latest technology.
-
If anyone is interested in an opinion from a 66-year old retired EE, I've been using Vista on my desktop for a year. I ordered my T400 with XP. -
Heh thanks for the input. I always found it very interesting when engineers weren't into computer tech all that much. Even engineers who work in IT aren't as into the "toys" and such
. I guess it is just how I grew up.
-
ROYAL DUTCH SHELL, is going to use VISTA jumping over from WIN2K, skipping the XP.
Their GI-D is ridiculous though
Lenovo real opinion about Vista?
