So my brother ordered a T410s through IBM epp during a cyber monday sale with me telling him all along that new models will be out in a month.
I gave him some relief though by stating that they likely offer a 30 day return so if he likes the new stuff he can get an exchange.

Well now its roughly 3 weeks since payment and he still hasnt received it. More importantly, Ive discovered that not only is it not a 30 day return policy, but there is a 15% restocking fee, even for unopened items. !?
Its 2010, almost 2011, and we're still forced to deal with such terrible return policies? I cant think of any other retailers with such a policy besides BestBuy.
In addition, the 21 day return is from the date the invoice is sent. How does that make sense?

Anyway, I came here to ask whether ordering through IBM epp will give him some sort of preferential treatment in getting that fee waived. Anyone have experience with lenovo returns and knows how they handle this stuff?

    Thanks.

    No. It won't.

Lenovo charges 15% restocking to prevent people from changing their mind on a whim. The stocking fee pretty much covers the express shipping cost both way, these laptop is put on sale at a discount in the outlet.

Unless you have a problem with the laptop itself, then there is very little likelihood that Lenovo would waiver the fee.

While it does suck, the old saying goes "always read the fine print before buying".

Heck, if he doesn't want that T410s, I'll gladly take it off his hands :) :)

3 weeks since he was charged and the machine hasn't shipped? That's highly irregular even for Lenovo.

    Cancel the order. Duh.

    thanks guys.

i'm sure he'll love his t410s but its partly my fault why he's worried about the return policy. ive basically drilled it into his head that sandy bridge will smoke what he's getting, and likely improve battery life.

i will say, however, that he is very price conscious and went from only wanting to spend 700 max to this. a fully speced new T series will not be less than 1400 with epp so he's being unrealistic, and sort of knows it.

he cannot cancel anymore unfortunately. and i dont think he would because of the pricing issue i mentioned. this is cheaper than what he'd likely have to pay for the new stuff.

You can always cancel before it ships, contest the charge, or refuse delivery.

But if he still wants the machine then I would not worry about the return. I am not returning mine. The T410s is a very nice machine.
