Thinking about taking advantage of 35% off an X61s. Seems like a pretty good deal in spite of upcoming X200. Anyone have a quick answer why Lenovo charges sales tax in Oklahoma?

    Thanks!

They charge tax in all states that have a sales tax.

Interesting. I thought they had to have a physical presence (i.e. an office, distribution center, factory) in order to be required by that state to charge sales tax. In know that New York is about to require that purchases on Amazon (and other internet retailers) be taxed on the state level.

It's probably a leftover from the IBM days when they did have a presence in every state. Who knows there may be an office there somewhere.

They can collect tax in every state if they wish. Federal law only requires that, at a minimum, they collect taxes in states which they have a presence.

    The government has no objections.
