Question: if you buy using the shareholder's account, what will happen to the warranty if you're not a shareholder? I mean, will they check to see if you're a shareholder/employee when you send your laptop to them to be repaired?
Also: if you're not a shareholder and you buy using the shareholder's account, is there anyway you can get into trouble? Is there a possibility that the order will be cancelled or the item is never sent and the money never refunded? Is it illegal?

Doubt it, the warranty on a ThinkPad follows the machine and doesn't really have any ties to the owner or method of purchase. See more about the warranty here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=113936

It's not illegal and no you won't get into any trouble. Lenovo is like any other company. All they want to do is sell systems and they don't have the manpower or resources to figure out who's an employee or stockholder.
Once you purchase a product or service(s) they are legally bound to provide such services. Now if you damaged your laptop due to carelessness on your part then that's an entirely different matter.

If you damage your laptop due to carelessness on your part, accidental damage should cover it. I think Lenovo calls it Lenovo Protection. You ahve to purchase it separately from regular warranty though.

Nice. Cuz my brother called lenovo and they told him the basic warranty is international, meaning that I can buy the laptop from the US website, have it sent to a friend in the staes, and then have that shipped to me in Canada, and the warranty will still work. The only things that don't work are the on-site and the protection plans, which is ok bcz i wasn't planning on getting one anyways. I'll get a 2 year warranty and my credit card will extend that to 3 years.
Now if the t61 came with an integreated webcam RIGHT NOW and the screen was brighter, that would make my macbook vs. t61 dilemma really really easy. -
If you're worried about using the shareholder discount even though you're not a shareholder then just use the student/alumni page. Many people fall under the alumni category and the discount is the same as the shareholder discount.

where;s the student/alumni page, and who's an alumni?

If you graduate from a college you are an alumni of that college so I assume that anyone that graduated from college can fall under the alumni category. -
oh, uni alumni. I was thinking of lenovo alumni! Thanks
