I called Lenovo this morning and they say it is with US Customs -- they are not quite sure when it will be released but the "UPS lady" the CSR talked to hopes "it will be soon".

I am mildly surprised that Lenovo does not have a ready inventory in USA. Anyone else have similar experiences to share and any insights into what the worst case delay could be?

I am slightly confused. Buying a Thinkpad isn't that easy it seems. Of course, they have charged my card already.

They probably charged you when it shipped, which is standard. And getting stuck for a few days in Louisville is also standard.

I spoke to UPS after seeing nearly identical tracking info on my T42p. the rep said the machines were being "tested." I asked if they were being tested by customs for contraband or if they were being tested by Lenovo, and she said that she was not allowed to tell me. her only advice was to call Lenovo.

    Brian and Murphyja, thanks!

Murphyja, any changes in status? Mine is still stuck on Oct 14. I hope I get it before hurricane Wilma (perhaps) strikes Tampa :(

don't be too surprised by this, Dell does the exact same thing, they charter a China Airlines Jumbo Jet out of Hong Kong 3-days a week and it flies into Tennessee full to the top with laptops.

the delay was caused by the FDA testing for Bird Flu!!! I guess it makes sense since the packages are coming from Asia.

what? i can't imagine any virus, let alone one that hasn't crossed from birds to humans yet, could survive on the surface of a laptop computer for 4,000 miles. furthermore, i'm 99% sure the assembly plants for lenovo are ISO certified and virtually dust free they're so clean.

    talk about bird brained.

i think my T43 is on the same flight/package/batch. i've been waiting for it since around the same time. it's been in louisville since the 14th.

make a whole lotta sense to test brand new laptops for bird flu tho. we all know hong kong is teeming with chicken coops

I can't think of any reason why some strain of the bird flu would be stuck to some laptops, but this is the US government we're talking about, so anything is possible.

Well, perhaps the US Customs suspect China is using trained hens on laptop assembly lines to reduce labor cost.

    My tracking reads interesting ..
