Hi, I read a lot of horrifying stories about the delivery guy delivers it to your door, and nobody is home, so he just leaves it there, and it gets stolen!

So before i buy a notebook (from lenovo or any other place), how does the delivery work?

Does a guy show up in your house and asks for signature or does he deliver it to a postal office somewhere and the postal office sends you a note saying come pick it up.

I very much prefer the latter as it's much safer. I am not always home (especially in the day due to school), I come back home at around 7pm, so I don't want them to deliver it to my door, and leave it there.

I live in Canada btw, but I am sure lenovo US and CA does the same shipping method.

So yah, can anyone shed some light?

    Thanks

The delivery is deliveror dependent. I have the opposite problem. I couldn't get FEDEX to leave it and I have to wait four days to receive the machine. Fedex insists on a direct signature for any shipment valued over $1000.00.

my laptop was delivered via UPS 2day air, 2nd day guarantees that it is delivered by 9 am the second day, but they require a signature, so they wont leave it outside your house

As said a signature is required - you can also arrange to pick it up at the main UPS distribution hub in your area by calling UPS after the first attempt.

So what if nobody is home when they deliver it? Do they just leave it in the UPS station and you have to retrieve it? I know signature is required, but how do they know the signature is indeed fro me? Anyone could sign it :p

First time buying stuff online :p

As long as someone is home anyone can sign for it in your place. (Perhaps arrange for a friend to relax over your house and sign for it for you)

If your not home they will make three total delivery attempts after which I'm not sure what they would do. Its likely they'd take it to the nearest UPS Station and call you to notify you that you need to pick it up.

The problem I can see from this perspective is that since ANYONE can sign it, isn't it easy for problems to occur?

Like say if the delivery guy misses my house and went to my neighbor, and my neighbor signs it anyway, what happens then?

I guess what I am asking is what happens if a misdelivery occurs? For example, if someone signed it on purpose to screw me or accidentally without knowing.

Then I guess you will have to take it up with UPS. What else can you do? It is the delivery guys job to deliver the package to the correct house, I can't imagine their are a whole lot of misdeliverys.

When I was waiting for my ThinkPad to arrive, UPS told me that they won't let the receiver pick up the package from UPS warehouse until after the 2nd or 3rd failed attempt.

You can call UPS and ask to arrange for it to be picked up. Why go through all the trouble. It wont get stolen and they wont leave it at your door. UPS is responsible if they do that.
